I do have half a clue really. But I'm not very tech savvy. I have always wanted speakers in every room and controlled from a central point.
But there is something about putting a CD on. I can really understand why lots of people are going back to vinyl.

I think I'm going to go back to artist alphabetical order for my CDs. Can't really sort into genre as 90% of my music is rock. Granted I do have prog, punk, soft, glam, then moving into metal (no doubt I've missed some). That just gets technical, as some fall into more then one genre.

I know what you mean SP about the physical act of the choosing the CD..I was very into the whole visual thing of looking at the CD covers and selecting...But the Sonos does that pretty well and it is so convenient and easy to use....It does change your approach somewhat though I must admit...

It's quite simples really Or can be as complicated as you like too!

You buy a Sonos system (not the cheapest, but proven quality) and connect it thru a wired system or thru your wi-fi network and it can access music on your laptop, pc or other music storage systems. If you subscribe to music services like Spotify, Google Play Music, Deezer etc then these can be accessed through Sonos too...
All controlled by the Sonos app on your phone...

                Trip stop talking!

I'm in the process of looking for a new CD player and if you carry on, I'm going to start looking into all that! Just one quick question ( quite possibly a stupid one). do you need a good broadband speed for your set up?

My CD collection is piled up in a dusty corner of a room!
When the pile falls over they are gathered up and shoved back in the corner in any order!
Nah....I actually prefer peace and quiet most of the time....apart from the car where I keep my favourite CDs...and can regularly be heard booming away at traffic lights!

My old vinyls however are in 2 boxes carefully stashed away.
Funnily enough our son was asking what 's in there fairly recently.
When I mentioned the Beatle Double White his ears pricked right up!

No, not at all..my broadband is not that fast and what Sonos does is build its own internal wireless network so fast broadband speed not that important.. What speeds you have?
I have recently converted 2 work colleagues who like their music to the Sonos and Spotify approach, and they say it has changed their lives!! It really is worth a look !!

Obviously broadband has never reached its full potential of 1/2 meg! I very rarely watch YouTube or listen to music via the interweb for this reason. Life is just too short. To watch that bl@@dly little circle spinning round in the middle of the screen all the time!

First time poster here (music is my first love so I felt the need to comment here rather than a vegetable related thread!).

I used to have my vinyl collection organised by the date they were released/recorded (they are a bit mixed up now since I had to move them). I found it interesting to see who might have been influenced by who and how music has changed over the years. It throws up some interesting combinations, "Abbey Road" next to Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" for example...

I've got hundreds of LPs and they are arranged completely randomly. Sometimes when we have people round they will ask if i have something specific, and that'll be me for the rest of the evening on my hands and knees pulling out all the records one by one and swearing under my breath.
