Since at work we are forced to listen to the radio, it is very loud as it must be heard over noisy machines, when I get home I like silence best. No radio, very occasionally I'll put a music vid on from youtoob while I'm on the poota, but mostly peace and quiet. Bliss.

Vinyl is A-Z by band (3 turntables in our house currently, possibly another on its way....OH does like his vinyl) CDs (mine) are in clumps of bands I think go together. Drives him nuts.
We have vastly different tastes in music, so I escape to another room when Captain Beefheart goes on. Am loving his current Bowie vibe though.Last edited by sparrow100; 14-01-2016, 05:01 PM.http://mudandgluts.com - growing fruit and veg in suburbia

Both CDs and albums are kept alphabetically by artist / band then chronologically. We have a lot and I'd never find anything otherwise. The few compilations we have are stored at the end, also alphabetically. Never downloaded any music, just doesn't feel real and I hate the tinny sound you get if you listen on phones etc, no depth at all. Ideally prefer proper vinyl as you get all the notes and proper covers but CDs are more convenient. OH has ripped a load of them but I never really got on with the MP3 player I was given, too much of a fag and they didn't store them how I wanted
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Although we never worked in a music shop, my brother and I were quite 'geeky' when it came to our music - we knew the record labels of each album, who produced it, who was brought in to do various instruments, backing vocals, mixing, etc.
We could chart every period of our life, girlfriends, where we staying, working, shenanigans we were up to, etc. to various songs/albums at the time (and strangely enough, although we both rarely get in touch now as he stays in France - we always end up comparing various songs, albums, artists to our life nowadays when we talk on the phone).
Anyway - the demise of record shops, especially the smaller independent ones, has been a sore one for me as I spent many a Saturday in my youth just browsing, chatting and listening to some of the best music ever.

Catching up with this thread...
Tripmeup - I'm intrigued by the system you have set up in your place.
Can you play different music in each room, or do your kids have to endure the sounds of your Wham and Nolan Sisters collection when they are in their own room with their mates ?.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. Trip I've just looked up the Sonos system. I didn't go into the details I just looked at pretty pictures . But it did start me thinking. I've got an external hard drive with about 320 meg of mp3s. that I have no way of listening to any more. Would a sonos system be the way to go?
SP wonders off to try and fathom it out by herself.

Is it 320mb of music you have on the hard drive or 3.2gb? 320mb is not a lot of music to move or store and so should not influence your choice really... Based on average 4 to 5 mb per mp3, then that is about 64 songs, so very easily moved back to a laptop or pc if you wanted..I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
