^^^^ you could add tree sticks and use it as a stool

Burn your house name or number into one.

Oil one and use as a decorative cake stand.
    Dart board.

Cut in half, place round end into the ground,to form either raised beds or a flatter area for growing on,like giant steps in the sloping land, hope it makes sense,

I have just phoned a mate who is heavily into wood turning and carving.

Explained what you had and he started crying, if they had been longer he would have come to fetch them and brought you back something nice if he could have kept the rest.

How big's big Potty? I'm sure there are still lengths but of a smaller diameter.

                            The Firewood Poem

Beechwood fires are bright and clear
If the logs are kept a year,
                            Chestnut's only good they say,
If for logs 'tis laid away.
Make a fire of Elder tree,
                            Death within your house will be;
But ash new or ash old,
Is fit for a queen with crown of gold

Birch and fir logs burn too fast
Blaze up bright and do not last,
it is by the Irish said
                            Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread.
Elm wood burns like churchyard mould,
E'en the very flames are cold
But ash green or ash brown
Is fit for a queen with golden crown

                            Poplar gives a bitter smoke,
Fills your eyes and makes you choke,
Apple wood will scent your room
Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom
Oaken logs, if dry and old
                            keep away the winter's cold
But ash wet or ash dry
a king shall warm his slippers by.

The firewood poem was written by Celia Congreve, is believed to be first published in THE TIMES newspaper on March 2nd 1930.

Thanks for reminding me of that poem, Martin. I knew I'd read somewhere that ash is the best wood for burning.
What worries me is that people keep saying "You have enough wood there to last the rest of your life". How do they know how long I'm going to live? I don't want to get to the last log and think, OK, better say Goodbye before I burn this one

^^^^^^^^^^Easy answer when you get to the next to last lump...................cut down another one, tree that is.

#42 VC it was the diameter as well as length he was drooling over.
