A different puzzle to solve

I treated myself to a propagator this afternoon,,i read the instructions,ok,but,

also says {do not cover the electric base with anything apart from the lid supplied}what,no plant pots,

on a serious note,this has got me thinking,what do others do,

pots only,or do you use smaller seed trays,the inside base of it is 17.5 x 14.5,say to only have plants damp,is this purely for the plants benefit{we all know not to have any plant to wet},OR,you cannot have any water in the base,tis a STEWART none thermostatic,it's all molded plastic,what do you think,am a good mind to ring their customer help line tomoz,

I use any pots or trays that fit in. Mine has capillary matting in it and I keep that damp. If its too wet, everything steams up

I don't really use trays for anything, too much of a pain pricking out ��

Me neither, most are in small modules that I just pot on. I hate pricking out.
My prop came with capillary matting but that went years ago. I just stick the modules straight in after the seed has been watered in. They often pop up before they need another water.

I don't mind pricking out so I use little plastic trays...you know the ones you sometimes get with food in? I save them for this purpose (probably about 6"x4").
That way I can start off lots of different seeds at once. Lots of seeds can be moved to cooler temps once germinated.

My prop is the same as yours, a stewart one without a thermastat...only much older. I've had it donkeys years.
Remember I had that injured pigeon last year?
He spent the first couple of nights snuggled up in the prop, toasty warm and safe. I do believe it saved his life!

Ancee,i have fought against buying one for a long time,then saw them at £30 ?,and thought dam it,i will,chose the bigger one,as it seemed a better deal than the smaller,also only needs 1 socket to plug in

My old bedroom floor has been chucked on top of all the stuff I had to take out of my old conservatory. I can just about see my propagators and the lead from the electric one but can't actually pull them out. I am gradually working my way down the pile by cutting up the planks and logs for fire wood, but I think I may end up at the GC for new ones. The old ones will still be used, perhaps next year.

You won't regret it Lottie! I've had mine for years, no thermostat, does the job

One of the Bigguns has some tomatoes and beans in it ,as we speak
