  • Cleaning Gas Hob burners

Decided to give the aluminium/alloy part of the burners on our Whirlpool hob a soak in a solution of biological washing powder and water. had been in for roughly half an hour when I read on tinternet that soaking can lead to problems with ignition. Oh eck .

Whipped them out pronto and stuck them in the sink but noticed immediately that the carbonised muck was coming off with just a wipe of my thumb(handy things thumbs). Miraculous. . A wee rub with a nylon scrubber and then a rinse and they are back on the hob looking brill. Super super duper. So chuffed.

Now for the trivets. Hope they clean as easily because they are muckit .

Any parts you can lift off freely as in the cap and surrounds can be safely soaked without any problems at all.

Peeps have trouble when they don't dry them correctly which can short out the ignition, if this happens simply light the burner with a match and leave it burning until you see a spark when you press the ignition button.

            Please Lottie correct nomenclature.

Thinking of you sticking your hob in the dishwasher nearly gave me a heart attack

Then I realised it wouldn't fit any way

It was such a relief to realise you meant burner heads

In pro kitchens we cleaned down everything, every day. It only took a few minutes but meant that nothing got too icky. The place then got a steam clean as and when.
I try to do the same at home, but usually don't as actually eating the food gets in the way!!

Trivets treated with "Oven Pride" and they have come up like new. Biological washing powder didn't do the trick with them.

We have a stainless steel hob and although we don't clean it after everyuse, it does get cleaned very regulary. We don't clean the trivets at all except for what has been done today but the burners have been cleaned several times previously using up much muscle power in the process. Trivets will be getting cleaned as a matter of course now.

I use the oven cleaner stuff that you put in a bag with the oven shelves to clean the trivets. Simply put them in, add contents of bottle, leave over night and rinse next day. Job done.

Trivets, Pan supports, because the pans sit on them. You may get a trivet on a barbecue or you may hang your witches cauldron from one but not on a hob
