  • Community gardening meeting and stuff

I have been watching christines garden (the old bbc program) and she was doing a gardening club talk I was wondering is anyone knows of anything like this in sunderland/durham or where I could get info?

I would love something like that round here or near by but there is nothing so far :/

Its very suprising seen as there is 3 large allotments just near me...

When i joined the swansea council waiting list they ask weather you want to be a part of a community garden and when a new one started up they mailed straight away.
I would have thought that that areas council would do the same ?

Community gardening is a bit different to an allotment and i wasnt interested for various reasons, but sounds good if it suits the individual concerned.

Do you want to know whether there are any community gardens or whether there are gardening clubs that have talks?

Sorry for hijacking your thread - but I'd love to start up one of those 'rebellious' community urban groups that reclaim abandoned/unused land by planting veg/fruit/flowers, etc.

More effective at challenging the rotten 'status quo' in our Society than trying to change anything through voting - in my opinion.

We use the whole town as a community garden. It started with a past mayor who used to go round the grass verges particularly on the outskirts planting flowers.

We now have a team dedicated to the planting of flowers, fruit and vegetables which are available to everyone. The slight problem we had last year was when they asked our local district council for permission to plant 40 apple trees in the town park. The DC gave them permission, but had no right to as the park belongs to the County Council and is run on licence by the Town Council.

We don't really want the trees there. It has meant we can't do what we had planned for the park so we have wasted time and money. However, if we make them remove the trees it will look as if we are being uncharitable so we're stuck with them.
