When my mailbox fills up it's usually because I haven't emptied my recycle bin for a long time.

How far back in time do they go? Keep everything from Jan 1st and blitz the rest, you'll never read them again, and half the addresses will be out of date anyway.

This is extremely frustrating, i keep deleting emails, but they re appear within minutes back in my inbox. The few that are in the trash, i click to empty the trash and it won´t empty...grr.....it comes with the pop up box that i will permanently loose them, but i say ok thats fine but they are still here.....
Trash also has in a bold cylindrical shape a number of 14628, but there is only 87 emails in the trash...argg...i have numerous times tried to empty that.

Any help please you geniuses

How are you viewing your mail? Webmail on browser or via a program like Outlook?

You're not alone, I'm having problems with my mail through Talktalk.

I have a hotmail account and it is better when i view it online through their website but not great, but on my macbook through the email icon is where i like to use it and normally always do.

I've found that some programs can/will only delete 50 emails at a time, which is a drag if you hundreds of them (or like some, thousands )

ok, it is working, i am not holding my breath but i did some thing online about clearing and i am receiving them again, i still have 11k on there and will clean up more and i am now deleting as i go. p.s i spoke to my mum and she has got over 50k on hers!!!!

Glad to see your mail is now ok. Wish mine was. Unfortunately Talktalk servers don't want to talk to the Mail on my iMac but I can view them on web.

I just learned something new. Turns out the Mail program strips mails off the server if it's a POP one BUT Hotmail, Gmail etc are on IMAP and the emails are not deleted by Mail so things eventually grind to a halt.

It might be worth setting up a second email account at Gmail or Yahoo both of which work with Mail. You can send test mails between the accounts. It's a useful fall back if Hotmail acts up again. If you do get second account you should use it occassionally as some providers delete dormant accounts.
