  • Silverfish Help

I know it is a strange thing to ask but someone usually comes up with something.

Does anyone know of a silver fish killer or deterrent which is safe to use in the kitchen? Everything I have found is either chemical or strong smelling so no good around food

    Thanks as always

Are they on the floor or in your cupboards? If on the floor, you could use an insect killer pen like this
Rentokil Fly Killer Pen: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors

it's like a felt tip pen but clear and odourless. Run it around the bottom of the skirting boards where they meet the floor. Silverfish seem to like diving down the minute gap there, so as the pen is a contact killer it would get them when they come out.

Don't know how safe it is for pets though, so if you have dogs/cats likely to touch or rub against it, perhaps not a good idea.

They are in a wall unit, where I keep my tins, boxed and bagged food. However I have found them the other end in a stack of plates

They eat cellulose (boxes) starch and sugars, so maybe put everything in airtight tins for a few weeks while you deal with the problem.
And I'd go with Scarlet and use diatomaceous earth, harmless to practically everything except insects.

They usually like damp places, I get them in my utility area in the winter when the water level is high. We don't have any footings (old house) and the slabs often get damp. I must confess, I just use the hoover . have you hot a leak?

^^^no leaks just a manky kitchen I have seen odd ones in the past but just squished and wiped clean, but in the cupboard has made me go a bit funny. The kitchen is on the 'when we have some more money to do list'
