Doesn't seem 5 mintues since people were doing the count down to 2000 members. Mind you, there are an awful lot of people who have never posted at all and ones that registered and now don't visit so there aren't really anything like that number of real members. Would be interested to know the number of active members though. That must be a fair few now although I can't believe that 410 people were ever logged on at the same time as it claims on the site front page!
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
I reckon there are several hundred members who have posted a 'reasonable' number of posts - but there will be some members who have done lots of posts in the past but are not posting any longer for one reason or another as well as newer members who are very active but haven't been here long enough to have posted a great deal.
But it's not fair to rate active members as those who have posted a lot (we're just the gobby ones! ) as there are - I think - over a thousand members who have had active in July (last two weeks) - and add to that all those guests who just pop along for a look/advice but don't feel the need to post ....
Those who just register for one or two posts are equally important to the rich mix of the Vine - just think, we are so good, the query is answered and they don't need to come back!
BTW that 410 thing wasn't real - Jennie tried to explain it to me, but it all got a bit complicated!
I wasn't moaning about people not posting, that's up to the individual, I often just read posts and don't necessarily feel the need to respond etc. I was more commenting on those who registered then never visit again so aren't really members at all and wondering how many people actually use the site (whether that be by posting, reading or a bit of both).

I was a 'read-only' member for more than 6 months after I registered, only really started posting after I got my plot in February. Felt like I knew you all a bit before I said anything (which could appear slightly stalker-ish I didn't mean it to be, honest...!) and comfortable asking questions, making comments and offering a bit of help if possible.
Tis a good forum, and I'm in no rush to go anywhere else
I think most forums generate members who register but dont then either return or contribute much post wise. I am guilty of the very same on other forums.
We have a good core of regular contributors and those that chip in now and then are most welcome as are those who just pop in to look see.
I am doing my family tree and have registered on several sites to assist with my research.
However , when my computer crashed last time(!) the only thing I lost was my 'bookmarks' - didn't keep a note of the sites elsewhere ( yes - went out and bought an external hard drive after that!).
Needless to say, I'll never remember what the sites were called, and I too will become one of those registered members who never appears again
Just hope someone hasn't posted some key information for me!!
You never know though- I may just stumble across them sometime!!

Well so far today, and its only 4 pm, 133 registered members have visited the site.
There are undoubtedly alot of registered members who don't post regularly but are still regular visitors to the site, as are many unregistered members, so it is really important that those of you who are active posters, and not so active posters, new shoots, and old hands continue to ask the questions and provide the answers.
Jennie, is there a quick way we can find out how many people have visited the site today (similar to the most users ever tagline). I know you can go to members list and sort according to last visit - Actually, sorry, thinking about you would have to be forever updating. That is probably the best way to do it (unless you know of another way)
You know- I recall being the 1,000,000 passenger on some airline or other....(!!!)...I seem to recall it was Dan Air...
but being only 10 at the time , I wasn't interested in the bottle of champagne they passed over to my father....
Strange thing is that I now I often think " i wonder if I am a specific user'....
Hence my interest in the 3,000 post.
I got all excited at the 2,000 post, but no-one else seemed bothered!!!

I am one those newish members that tends to look rather than post (although I have just looked at my profile and I have somehow posted 53 times so far!!) as I am building up my knowledge. Once my first year is over or so I hope I will be able to contribute more with advice for other newcomers. I know asking questions helps other people as well, so I dont feel as silly as I used to!
