Ours isn't just a veg show - it takes place traditionally the week before term ends - they use the school. It's a WI production really and includes handicrafts and flower arranging too. I have to say Hazel, I've been entering quilts since we moved here - 7 years. This is the first time I've entered veg. If it were me I'd take the camera and some notes, but others would implore you to be brave (little Noddy) and enter something. In our system, you are issued with a number and only the 1st, 2nd and 3rd people have their names disclosed. Therefore you don't need to feel a wally - no-one knows you've entered unless you win!

Entered my local village show on saturday,my first attempt.850 entries in show,up over 200 on last year despite all the rain weve had. I managed 15 entries, peas (canoe) 2nd. dwarf french beans 2nd.rhubarb 2nd.shallots 3rd,longest stick of rhubarb 3rd. No luck with potatoes (maxine winston & kestrel ). onion sets & carrots. The quality of some of the exhibits was amazing. Will try again next year. Its not all about winning, its taking part thats counts, plus all the happy hours spent in my garden in my OWN little world. To others thinking about entering a show,I would say have a go.

I agree kernow. If not many people enter there's no atmosphere. Last year the show was criticised by many for not having enough entries in the various classes. There's therefore not much to see and once that happens, people stop going. It's up to us to keep these things alive.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
