      • good evening Folks, it actualy stayed reasonably dry, just a wee slever in the wind, and it didnt make the Gsons go inside, once they were away I sawed up some wood, and boy did it get cold, thats the coldest my hands have felt for years, and when I went looking for comfort and shared body heat, I was told to get lost, after tea I was back out and it didnt feel as cold, I mixed half and half compost and worm compost and filled a basket and planted three garden pearl toms. in the mix I have also planted another basket as normal just to see if theres any difference, I have covered the plants with fleece as its to get cold tonight, the sore leg is back so I realy need to rest it. Well I wish You all a good weekend, and if OH had asked for shared body heat I would have made the sacrifice willingly. Goodnight

        • Typed the following yesterday and fell asleep before sending it. Lappie battery even went flat.

Lovely to see Lottie getting really positive and encouraging news.

Don't know if I've said on here about the problems we've encountered with our new house.

In the home report, the electrics were marked with a "1" i.e in tip top order and no action required. My brother is a retired electrician and he checked the system out. Some switches and sockets have been changed over the years but the wiring is the original from 1954

His recommendation - an immediate rewire. again but this was borne out when he found affixed to the consumer unit a notice left by Scottish Gas - the electricity provider - to the effect that they had condemned the wiring. There was also a notice affixed to the flex of a high pressure water heater indicating it was a hazard and should not be used.

None of this mentioned by the surveyor in the home report. Solicitor now pursuing surveyor with a vengeance!!.

We are also having to install a new bathroom suite. Cast iron bath needs re-enamelling,toilet pot is chipped, sink is chipped. None of this mentioned in home report.

Carpets were minging, stained with dogs mess and god knows what so these were thrown out the day we got the keys.

However, under the carpet of the bedroom adjacent to the bathroom, we found signs of water damage, in fact the smooth edge for the carpeting was rotten and the floorboards wet and stained. Nowt mentioned in the home report.

We will get everything straightened out but none of these things were budgeted for and that's what the damned home report is supposed to be about.

Thankfully my brother was able to do the rewire for us and although we paid him, it was much less than we would have had to pay an electrical contractor. I was the apprentice/gofor and am now familiar with the underfloor geography.

Garage still to rewire but it is getting re-roofed - woodworm damage which was actually mentioned in the home report.

          Anyway, back to the future

            • Spring got sprung and now it has unsprung back again...............I hope everybody else either has snow (if they like it) or none because they don't.

My poor little seedlings as they were basking away in 17 C heat a few days ago.

                • Yep Nicos we have 'sner'. I got up at 4.45 and we had a good covering then but it has not stopped yet.

I opened the door to let the old dog out, he took one look at the garden and did an about turn - he refuses to go out in it and I am sure I can hear him slosh when he walks.

I wonder if I can get him ufted by waving a dog biscuit under his nose?

The snow isn't sticking as it looks as if it rained before it started snowing. Coming down thick and fast here.
Don't know what I am doing today due to the weather. Think it might be a case of stopping in and keeping warm.
Have a good day everyone and keep warm if you have the snow

                            • Well, the good news for us in shorts and a tee is that the sleet has stopped. The weather brings a new challenge to that bit before the run that we optimistically call 'the warm up'.

                              • Lovely sunshine here. Mind you I have no idea how chilly it is out there. I am cocooned in my dressing gown sipping coffee in the warmth of the office (box room really!). So, today when I get myself together I shall be potting on and planting more seeds. I did NOTHING garden related yesterday and not a lot else that was useful. Wasted the day really, but so grey and wet and dismal ... I could not motivate myself to do anything. I did go to the local film theatre (at the Uni) to see 'Hail Caesar!' though. Made me laugh a lot. Off to son's later to baby-sit and stay the night. Then I am being taken out to breakfast on Sunday morning Have a good day, even if you have got sner.
