  • Morning, thank goodness for strong black coffee.

Had one of those nights when still awake at 3.00 am, very annoying!

Dull, damp and dreary looking day here in 'the sunny south'!!

      • Morning all, not raining here - yet.
Hubby was out till it was too dark baling out last night.
This is an urban garden and drainage is probably not an option I'm afraid
We have clay soil, and although ours is well worked, it's still down there somewhere
On a brighter note, it's the Friday morning shift at Age Uk. Best one of the week, change round day.
Have a lovely day everyone, let's hope the rain goes away now, could someone please start a 'bring back the sun' petition

          • Morning all...wet damp and miserable here today!

How's the water NS? We often have flooding issues, if We have a downpour the ground just won't soak it up fast enough (we are on clay) it just runs straight off and the drains can't take it.. Only a few days ago I got caught outside in the rain so camped out in the GH. When it started lightening Stan got scared so we made a dash for the house! You guessed it I was in my new fit flops and the drain near the house had blocked up - 4inches of water to get to the kitchen with the porch flooded! I had to remove my new shoes and go in and clean out the drains, as soon as I did they blocked up again. I really enjoyed the hot shower afterwards.

Good luck with the interview NVG!

            • It's actually quite nice here at present, what a funny year its usually the we test part of the country here but this year I actually have to water the garden and its a comfortable temperature, for those getting all the rain I do hope you don't have any damage and that it dries up for you shortly. I should have added the OH has the washing out to dry, me I can't see the difference from what I put out, its all hanging down

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                • Morning All

Overcast and a tad cooler but looking at the positives here, the new plot will have been soften so going to take the opertunity to start digging!

Everything on the plot, except my sprouts is looking healthy so looking at that as a real positive.

I don't have a huge snail and slug issue on my plots so the added moisture doesn't really increase their numbers.

Will have lunch over the plot today and have fresh strawberries for pud.....that's a real positive.

                  So my words to you this morning are;

Having a very positive day no matter what your pursuit is

                  • Happy Friday
Its raining but it'll pass and the sun will shine again. It always does
Sorry about your flooding NS, It was torrential here yesterday and a big soggy pond formed in a corner of the "lawn". It drained away in a few hours but I'd have hated it to have stayed - you (and Mr Sally) have my sympathy.

NVG, Go and show them what an asset you are and how they can't manage without you. I'm sure you look made for the job. All the best

Have a great day everyone, what ever the weather lets you do

                    • Morning all, lovely and sunny here this morning. Going to repot some toms into their final buckets some cucs also needing re-potted. Have loads of chillies and have no idea where to put them so think I will be visiting my mum and brothers and bringing some chilli plants as gifts!

Hope you have dried out now NS, I think you are right about the trees. This country seems to have an obsession with cutting them down. I also think that so many gardens have been given over to mono-block driveways causing localised flooding.

Best of luck with the interview NVG and hope Han has a great day!

                      Bren...petition signed!

                      Have a great day everyone.

                      • Glad to hear GL that your slug problem is minimal - theyve slithered their way up here .....!!!

I'm trying to keep in a positive spirit, but in truth, I'm feeling pretty glum .....
I was just leaving my house yesterday evening to attend the long-awaited (5 weeks) appointment, when the house phone rang .... It was the hospital letting me know that the scanner had 'got jammed' and they were waiting for the engineer - don't come to the appointment ........
So, waiting to hear now when the appointment will next be ....
Perhaps 5 weeks doesn't sound long, but when you're off work and don't know what is wrong with you, it feels like an eternity ....

Could've been worse, I suppose, we could've got all the way to hospital only to be turned away .....

I was going to put this on the 'minor rant thread' but I'm not angry, just disheartened and weary ...

Anyway, in a typical Gemini fashion, look on the bright side, at least it's given me time to play in my GH and garden (when it hasn't been raining..!!!)

                          • NS ours are French drains , also on clay.
Oh Susie don't get me started on apps. My brother took dad and mum over to Drs, receptionist had rang mum to say dr wanted dad to have blood test before changing a tablet to new one, thought oh ok.
Palaver of day sorting hire car then they get to appt to be told an ecg not bloods, then sit 20mins while nurse sat gossiping (in view of them), trauma for dad who doesn't understand what's happening, having to remove some of clothes... aaaghhhh.
Always something to try you, hopefully they get you appt Asap.

Return from midge biting damp walk.
Mushrooms on toast had., now for tidy up, slug patrol and paperwork.

My running log website shows that if I run 6k (or thereabouts), I burn off 400 calories (or thereabouts). That's not even a kitkat afterwards.

                              • Sorry - manners - morning folks! It's FRIIIIIIIIIIIIIDAY! The contents of the In Tray appear to have multiplied in the night - so a busy day for me today.

Not raining at the mo, so that's good. I was about a mile from home on my run last night when the heavy rain started again, and it didn't 'alf come down! I have *never* been so wet - the pavements were streams!
