        • Morning all Been sat outside braiding last of the onions and shallots for storage. Pleasant way to spend the morning.

Yesterday was so nice to eat a salad containing our own lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and onions. Went down really well with hard boiled eggs, couscous and tuna pasta. Homegrown tastes so much sweeter

Peas are dying off - they didn't do too well. Runner beans look to be making a bit of a comeback with lots of new flowers on. Fingers crossed. Have a great day everyone.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Hey, Janie, I wouldn't bother with vacuuming/dusting - your new neighbour will get to see the 'real you' ..... . You don't want to give any false first impressions...!!! (That's my excuse, anyway ......start as you mean to go on )

            • It's turning into a really lovely morning now it's warming up ..... Sun is out!

I've had a most satisfying start - filled my little Juke up to her rafters with sack loads and builders bucket loads of garden waste (no more room in council 'brown' bin and compost bins totally rammed .... Need more compost bins......!)
So I was there, like the saddo that I am, waiting for the 'Recycling Operative' to unlock the gates at 9am, greeted him with a cheery "morning - green garden waste" almost on first name terms now .....!

Unfortunately, once home had to vac car so I don't get my work uniform full of twigs/leaves/spiders when I have to stop play very soon and go to the place of paid-drudgery...

              See yous all laters..!!

              • It rained yesterday! Hoorah. The first real rainfall in absolutely months: 13 mm's worth, so not an enormous amount but still worth having. Next lot due end of September according to the long-term forecast.

Cloudy today. Went into the market in our local village but the place was teeming with outsiders. Harrumph! Couldn't be bothered to wait for the fishmonger. Had a half-hour wait for the butcher and that was enough.

No gardening today I think, as work now calls.

Hope you all have a jolly afternoon.

                • Morning all (still just morning)! Back from an hour at the allotment and 5 minutes spare before I have to go out for a hospital appointment. Made my first batch of piccalilli last night - it was quite 'courgette heavy' - but I did include my first cauliflower! Yay! And plenty of beans. The house did smell a bit vinegary afterwards, but hey, it's that time of year.

It did drizzle a bit whilst I was at the plot but the sky is brightening up a bit now. Glad I watered the beans. The ground is pretty dry Have a good day all.

                  • Afternoon All Been cleaning off the Elephant Garlic to store and giving everything some water. It's been quite sunny and windy all day, but the clouds are gathering now. It was chilly here last night, we nearly put the heating on

                    • Good afternoon Folks, 12c hee and raining, took grandsons to a soft play so that kept them occupied for a couple of hours, bought some garden equipment (all reduced) so will have to stay in for the next month to save up my pocket money (that's for the benefit of any youngsters who may be reading this) I think I will spend some time in the greenhouse tonight, as it looks like the rain will be on for a while, might put a fire on to keep things warm (me) Might see you later

                        • Evening all, cold and wet today! When I went to collect Harry dog from the groomer the thermometer in the car registered 11 degrees! Fed the birds today and the usual local pigeons arrived to tuck in...in among them was one with blue rings round it's legs...presume it's a homing pigeon who has decided to jump ship and run with the local reprobates!

It's now dark outside...where is summer?!!

                          • Good evening Folks, its cold and wet here tonight had to put the heating on as my wife was feeling it cold, I had to take the dog out (we have daughters dog with us just now) but when I came back in cold and wet I was religated to the conservatory, where there is no heating, for some reson she seems to think I make too much noise when she wants to watch the telly, its not me its the dog, she dosen`t seem to like it when I hold onto a rope toy that she keeps shoving into my hand, she growels and barks and runs about daft (its the dog I am talking about) but I will have to make my way through now it is getting to cold here. So I wish you all a good night, and I will have to find out why VC goes to the vet and not a doctor, and also gives a urine sample a funny name? Goodnmight

                            • If I'm up and around at midnight can you all please give me a nudge to remind me about the shooting stars?
I flippin well forgot when I was posting earlier....and we had a CLEAR sky!( yup....It crossed my mind that the moonshine was getting brighter, but I didn't make the more than obvious connection that if I could see moonshine, then I'd be able to see loads of shooting stars for a change!)
Never mind though, I did have one heck of a chuckle on the sweetcorn thread
