  • Morning all, still sunny but a little mistier than the last few days . Bit of everything today, housework, gardening snd then collecting grandaughter from school so we will have a nice afternoon together.
    Have a good day all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

        Commiserations on your old girl.

Decent Ambleside drizzle here. I'm due to go out, as well, but the dirt tracks we use will be very slippy-slidey. Still, needs must. I have to go and pick up a book delivered to a bar for me (James Wong, Grow for Flavour, recommended by someone on here if I remember rightly, apologies to whoever it was for not remembering your name), buy another bag of compost (with no bits of vermiculite and the like, for starting off my parsnips at long last), pick up some plug plants a friend bought for me at the nursery he goes to (in particular Figueres onions) and maybe visit the butcher's.

        58 leeks and counting...

Looks like another day for doing 'stuff' outdoors but where to start with another cuppa I think

Sorry Scarlet I thought you had sons who of course all ways listen and that last part becomes grandkids, so enjoy while you can

            • Although my daughter doesn't get a look in where her car is concerned, eldest Golden Girl pays her share of the insurance, but she's working during her "year out" so she can afford it. I'm sure your boys will do the same (in a few years time) Scarlet, although I suspect they will forgo that and get their own vehicles! Your hair looks nice Janie

              • Thanks Flo. Son thinks so too.

Well did the shopping and duly delivered it, then got the job of not only putting it away but also everything else kitcheny.

As you all know I've just had a new kitchen extension, my old kitchen was tiny, my son's kitchen is even tinier. It does have the advantage of only one window. He had 4 of his mates in to help. where does everybody congregate when they need a break? Yes you've got it! The kitchen.

A lot of the stuff had been stored at his fathers for some time in a stable and was subsequently filthy. This is when I find out there is no washing bowl and no plug for the sink. I picked up washing bowl, tea towels, can opener and dustpan and brush on my way home. Couldn't get a plug. Back there tomorrow for the next stint.

The dogs are very pleased to see me.

                • Evening all Made the most of the naff weather and got a lot done indoors. Pricked out 3 runner beans into bigger pots and made some pop bottle cloches for them so cat doesn't get tempted to eat them or play with the compost.

Leeks now coming up and summer squash but strawberries and inca berries are both a no show so far.

Hubby thinks I am nuts and also he's getting sick of all the indoor sowing taking over the windowsill. I mentioned moving furniture around so I could fit more plants in the window and that went down like a lead balloon.

I bought the new Star Wars movie for him so we can sit and watch it tonight. That should improve his mood and take his mind off more plant pots magically appearing over the weekend Only another 3 or 4 weeks and I can start planting out.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Movie night with kids and a beer to relax...

Gave my Mam 12 tomato plants that I have already hardened off so have cleared some space for other stuff to take their place...Next door neighbor will get another 10 or so tomorrow hopefully and a friend to get another 10 or so during the week..That just leaves me with under 100
