  • Morning all

Bright and sunny here, but still spotted a few blaady slugs about...
Have to bring kids to swimming lessons soon, so any gardening on hold until after that...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

    • Morning all, late on parade again.
Hubby had done household chores while I was sleeping. Didn't even hear the hoover lol
Daughter and GG coming for Sunday dinner today. Haven't seen them in person for over two weeks, so looking forward to it.
We bought Marnie some nice outfits and shoes, she will love them
I have 11 out of 12 Sweetcorn seeds sprouting. Had a little root around the one that hadn't germinated, don't think I even put a seed in that one lol
Spuds, tomatoes etc are coming along fantastically. Onions, still hanging in there.
      Have a good Sunday everyone

      • Morning and clouds here. Weather still hasnt made up its mind.
Off to church this morning and after that it will be a case of being guided by the weather gardenwise.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,

          • Thunderstorm about to hit. The windscreen of one car is protected with camping bed rolls and canvas, the other with one of the windscreens smashed by hail last year (but still holding together) despite the protective layers of blankets and cardboard. Looks like it's going to be a haily year (again).

Anyway, special hello to Dean, whom I've not met before. Very sorry to read your sad news.

            • Good luck with the hailstones snoop.

The largest stones I've ever seen were in Italy - about 1.5cm in diameter...are yours like that or bigger?
If they are indeed huge , I'd love to see piccies of then if poss?

Good luck with any plants outside too...I can't recall, but do you also have a PT/ greenhouse / cloches which are also at risk?

I didn't take any photos, but here's a link to a Spanish newspaper with a picture (it might look like an exaggeration, but they were absolutely huge) and, towards the bottom, a video taken at a nearby municipal pool. Even if you can't read Spanish, the video tells it all. The title of the article reads: Hail turns a village in Teruel into "a colander".

El granizo convierte a un pueblo de Teruel en «un colador»

Our veg patch was pretty well totally shredded, cold frames smashed, skylight broken and one of our cats took a hit. Fortunately he recovered, but it took weeks to heal, the vet thought he had only a slim chance of recovery and the locals told us just to get another one. Anyway, I've given up on the idea of a greenhouse (had one but it blew down twice in wind and then finally collapsed under snow). Amazingly, our solar panels and our satellite phone and internet set-up survived. And the insurance paid for the windscreens, though we've had to live with the dinged bodywork. So it could have been worse!

                    • Well, the day was a washout. The showers were so heavy it flooded my front garden for a while. Very disappointed.
The only good thing i can say, I wont have to worry about the potatoes drying out for a while.

                      • Well I spent most of the day gardening in "the flower bit". I've dug out as much of the ground elder roots that I could find, redone the edges and planted in a few annuals and a couple of sunflowers. It looks really good, shame it's the smallest bed ive got. I just don't know which bit to tackle next, feel shattered thinking about it!

There was a cycling Velothon in sunshiny South Wales today. Lots of roads closed to make it a traffic-free race. Thank goodness its only once a year!
I thought of Scarlet's OH and Trip when I saw all these lycra clad bodies whizzing past. How do they get into those outfits and, more importantly, get out again when they need the loo?
Maybe I shouldn't ask these questions as I'm dreading the honest answers
Hope you've all had a good day

They were unbelievable. We get a lot of hail here (had no idea when we moved here) but this was the worse storm yet. They shattered on impact on the ground and sent bits flying everywhere. Even the car doors have got ding marks. Very scary. I'm guessing it was a shattered bit that got the cat. A full hailstone like that would have done for him. We didn't venture out till it was very definitely all over.
