            • That's positively a proper holiday, Florence Fennel. Hope you have lots of fun.

And it was positively cold here last night. Due to get colder still. Tom leaves looking very distressed today after the heat, wind and now this. Had to chuck out loads of peppers (nearly all the red ones and half the yellows) and toms - blossom end rot had set in. I'm guessing the plants couldn't transport water up fast enough to cope with conditions. Don't think it will be just calcium deficiency. Not in the toms anyway. Shame about the peppers. It was looking like it was going to be my best year yet for peppers.

Brought up yet more water from the well last night. Mr Snoop says we'd be wise to do it more often now, as the level is dropping and it's taking longer to replenish. So little and often it will be. Plants won't be sorry, as they get a decent water when we do. Also did a bit of weeding yesterday. But it's never enough.

Congrats on the grandchild, Deano. Hope it's a good'un! That said, I'm guessing that all grandparents (and parents) think their tiddlers are good'uns!

Anyway, have a jolly day one and all.

Morning everyone, hope you are all well and have a lovely day! Bought some begonias to try to cheer up a corner in the garden. Only problem is the cats here use it as a short cut so we will see if they survive...plants I mean!

It's an old and true saying but there's nothing like a new grandchild to bring in some joy to your life - enjoy and if your very, very lucky you get to change the nappies on a regular basis :-)

8.3 metres, but it draws on a very plentiful (at the moment) vein of water.

                              • The one on our allotment is 60 metres down in the adjacent field - so far the water flow pumped up by generator operated electrical pump has been fine even when we were filling the water tanks on the site almost every day during a recent fortnight's dry spell using between 3,000-4,000L a time.
