  • Yes, I know you are all right, but it's a grey cloud over my day. He is old enough to know better at 46!! Jay, my younger brother said exactly the same - he would love a dog but works long hours and travel a lot so he has snakes instead But I'm big sister, by 23months and I'm always his first point of call. Now as a complete opposite my younger brother has just called to say don't worry about it and to get my mind on something else he has booked us up for a trip to London in September!! How's that for a turn around? Baby brothers are the best drinking partners

        • Scarlet my son is heading to London to the US Embassy for a visa...no date as yet...but he is taking me and his grandmother with him although no doubt we will end up paying! Looking at hotels too...anyone any recommendations for good hotels there? My OH and I usually stay at the M@yf@ir Hotel but that looks to be too expensive as we will need two rooms! Very excited too as I love wandering around London, especially if the weather is good!

          • Good evening,

Spent they day shopping with the OH. Bought some fabric, going to attempt in making some cushion covers for the front room. Then (once I am good enough) make some matching curtains with it. Not been to the allotment today because OH was complaining his feet was hurting after walking around all day. So I am going to go tomorrow when he is working.

            • Good evening all. We had a beautiful sunny day today. Decided to take 3 of my grandkids out for the day as the temp was up to 25deg.
Took the train to Bray for the annual funfair. Kids getting old enough to go on some of the bigger rides.
Brought a picnic and also bought chips, icecream and lots of water.
Home now after a great day and all three of them are shattered.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

              • Evening All It's been really hot here too and now it's sticky hot it's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow, but I'm back at work. Never mind, only 2 more weeks until my annual 2 weeks leave. OH birthday today and we had his favourite meal - meat'n'tater pie and mushy peas He loves it even in this heat! My poor youngest lad has had a mouth abscess and the tooth pulled today. It's taking ages for the face swelling to go down. It's really knocked his duck off (strange saying). Middle GG has achieved an apprenticeship for dental nursing, pretty apt today.

Scarlett - you're right so relax - if you say no sometimes, people come to appreciate your yes a whole lot more IYKWIM

Hmm, I'm a down market kind of girl I have lots of friends in London so I'm happy to kip on the floor. Often do a cheap hotelin Paddington as it's quick to get on the train in the morning. Ive used the Strand palace many times, it's about £140 per Room. Not much there, rooms are small But great for the west end and at the back of the hotel is Covent garden. Perfect place to be in Sept we've got 2 rooms booked in a travel lodge at tower bridge as my brother is doing some photography stuff near there. 80 per room per night. So long as it's clean, I'm not bothered and he's stayed there before. The langham hotel used to be nice.....haven't been there for years but it's just a two min walk to Oxford street (or Liberty's) - though a bit pricey. The radison hotel in Marble Arch is worth a shot too. Location is great.

                  • Thanks Scarlet, will have a look! It's trying to get the balance between price and a wee bit luxury for the MiL. She's a bit down at the moment and we thought a couple of nights away with a show thrown in might cheer her up a bit.

That no doubt is why you were asked, I have found that the children no matter what age are quite happy for us to pay

                            • Evening All!
                              Warm innit?
Aren't car alarms funny things? Mine's just gone off for no apparent reason - nobody around, its not windy and its on the drive so no passing cars. However, a couple of nights ago I left the boot wide open and the car unlocked all night and nothing happened. They should invent an alarm that sounds when you forget to close your boot, not one that sounds for the fun of it!
Still 20C outdoors and a huge moon. Bats are flying and a strange insect has just flown into the kitchen and is battering itself against the lights - but its not a moth...................
