  • I'm a bit out of the loop as had my aunty down all week. She's just gone back now. So sorry for whatever bad news you've had SP and I'm thinking of you.

Still hot but meant to be cooling down quite a lot tomorrow and temperatures are looking more normal for the week ahead.

Most of my mangetout have sadly died now. Not sure if it was the heat but they got mildew and haven't recovered from that. Pulled most of them up.

Runner beans are doing well. Got some new ones growing because I haven't had enough to freeze yet. So hopefully I can fill the freezer up.

Just getting first ripe tomatoes coming through finally so very pleased on that. Had a few yellow ones and will soon be picking some red tomatoes.

Spent this morning working out how to braid shallots which was hilarious and took many attempts. I am very cack handed at things like that. But we now have a braid of sorts hanging in the kitchen.

    Enjoy rest of weekend all
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

    • Feeling sad today. First anniversary of my mothers death.
Went to her anniversary mass and then visitedt the cemetary.
Back home now and pottering in the garden but still missing her as much as ever.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

        • Thinking of both SP and Bramble...

Busy weekend with our soccer club's golf fundraiser yesterday...Hacked around the course for a while and then spent the rest of the day cooking burgers...the joy

Up early this morning for an organised 100km cycle which was very hilly (upwards )
Cycled to and home from start so ended up doing 120km in total..
Tired now but might manage some medicinal Guinness later to rebuild my depleted iron levels
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

VC, move up here and you will be ecstatic, in fact you could save money, you wouldn't need to buy any water butts, if you need water you just have to wait an hour or so and its sure to rain

Have been quite busy today, after church I took m wife out for lunch, then when back home I went and bagged some burn (river) sand as I want to pot on some geraniums, after mixing the sand an compost I started to prepair the three ins. pots, I have 80 pots bought from two different shops the same make of pots the same price (reduced price 50 from Morrison 30 from Sainsbury) and I have discovered that some packs (of 10) need to have the drain holes cleared, the other pot packs are clean so if you have bought any pots from any supermarket shop check the drainage holes. Well I was about to go back out to the greenhouse but it is absolutely chucking it down, if VC and Nicos want to pay a visit up here they will both be very happy, one could get her water butts filled and the other could listen to the rain fall, and (yes I as tempted to put the first part of that in differently) See you later

              • Its rained here while we were out walking only for about 5 mins so didn't bother getting my waterproof on, it dried as soon as it hit the ground, and here was me expecting a downpour.

                    • Good evening Folks, it has turned a bit cooler here now, had some heavy rain earlier and now light showers, potted on some geraniums, and emptied a bucket of potatoes, from three tatties there is enough for six meals, the tomatoes are being pulled thick and fast now, at the start they never reached the house but now there are too many for the two of us, there is still no curd forming in the cauliflower, and they are standing about three feet high, can you eat the leaves of cauliflower?. The field behind my back garden is covered in brambles, so when I bought a bramble bush yesterday my wife said I was daft, but it is an evergreen thornless variety, pluss it was reduced in price,(I am sure there is a virus on the Vine that makes you buy things if they are reduced in price) Well I wish you all a good night, for those feeling down remember there are people thinking of you, and I am off to think on how I could charge my wife for any brambles from my plant (I have to make the money up some way). Goodnight

                        • Evening all,

nice to be able to take a few minutes to post a comment although it would take me months to catch up on everything on the vine.

New house dragging on . Log burner stove installed today at long last. Fireboard will be fitted on Tuesday evening and that will let the painting in the sitting room be finished and then we can get carpets down - that is if we can get sorted out with Furniture.

We have had major issues with Harveys. Had a suite ordered and paid for but somehow they couldn't come up with the chairs, then they could, then they couldn't. We' ve been lied to and lied again. We've been asked to give them feedback. Guess how that is going to read!!

Anyway. plot is a shambles but at least we are harvesting raspberries and strawberries, more than we can eat which is good news for our elderly neighbours.

Out shopping for furniture again tomorrow . Real pain in the butt as we had already gone through that trauma but needs must. Our existing furniture is fine but because of the layout in the lounge of the new house we can' get it to fit in. wE ARE NOW SQUARE INSTEAD OF LONGAND THIN OBLONG. Excuse these caps, I can't be bothered sorting it.

Think I'll start using Rary's economic logic
