I admire the hill walkers, Rary - anything incline-relating slays me. I've come to running late in life (in fact my first steps are recorded on the vine in a weight-related thread about four years ago), and turn the legs over to the tune of about 20 miles a week - but I'm not so clever with hillwork. I think that Shen's your man when it comes to the Monroes.

My ol' dad used to love a meal at a steakhouse which provided plastic 'bibs' - he said it meant they accepted that rack of ribs was somehting to be eaten with your fingers!

      • Sorry - where are my manners!? Evening all!

As I recall, BB left me a tying off point for the string last night with a Journey track, which I declined on the ground of 'grown-ups-don't-sit-up-all-night-listening-to-music-but-have-better-things-to-do-the-next-day'.

But I don't fit that category tonight - so let's lift a glass of cooking-apple-and-orange wine and see where this gets us to - from the live version..,....

        • Right - I see why the Journey track that BB pointed me to rang a bell - the sentiment and verse is not so different to John Mellencamp's Jack and Diane.

          • And we're still with American rock here - Steve Earle, Copperhead road.

            • A quick aside about the search engines obsessions with 'relevent content' - I don't think that my news feed returning digital content based on my previous preferences is healthy.

When I pick up the paper, I may have a couple of hundred stories between the covers (albeit tempered by the editorial stance of the paper in question), but I flick through all of these, even lightly, as I read those articles of interest.

News sites (along with Youtube) show me stuff it thinks I want to see, based on my history - but that doesnt introduce anything outside my perceived sphere of interest - not a good thing to widen the ol' horizons, I think.

              • I was going to continue the American homelands theme with Lynard Synyrd 'Sweet Home Alabama', but the most recent vid of this live is pretty sad.

Sorry, super 70's bands, but I am in mourning for the force that you were at the height of your powers - see Showaddywaddy recent clips, Jethro Tull, Sweet, Cat Stevens. Too many to mentions - but, we the audince, expect far too much.

An exception may be Moody Blues who still sound live as good as they did - er - forty years ago.

                • Sorry - too gloomy!

Let's celebrate those rock god from their heyday! From the time that I recorded the top 40 on cassette from Tony Blackburn's show on Radio1 (trying to avoid recording woor woof from Arnold the dog...)

                  I loved this.....

                  • Then we have the Rubettes (v similar but not half as good as Showaddywaddy as far as I see)

It's in the hats isn't it? Who would have thought ever that they were a good fashion move??

                    • And at the same time in the mid 70's I was wallowing in tartan....

Was there a rumour of a revival after FORTY YEARS? Please don't. You will not 'recreate the old magic' you will disappoint those of us who have misty memories - we don't want to see your middle aged paunches, receding hairlines and cracked voices.

                      • Well I hate to leave you with a catchy number like that which will like as not get on your nerves as it got on mine all those years ago.

I would like to leave you with a catchy best selling contempory song, but I looked through today's top 40, and didn't recognise a single one. How to feel old, huh?

However, I do recognise the best seller of last year - not only that, but I like it and can sing along (in an embarrassingly middle aged way, obvs.) so I leave you with Mark Ronson...

                          • Morning all! Looks like I'm first in today, are you all having a long lie?

Well I went to Ikea yesterday with my 'senior moments' brain in full force. I went with my top worn inside out and I left my mobile in the car on the dashboard in full view of anyone passing in the car park.

I'm having visitors today so I need to whizz round and tidy up and wash the dog who doesn't smell particularly visitor friendly this morning.

Typically, the sun is out and I probably wont have time to footer in the garden!

                            Have a good Sunday everyone.

                            • No, I'm here GG, just sorting out in my head what day it is. Didn't take long thank goodness
I too have visitors today, got to have a major tidy up as well.
Did the bathroom yesterday, just the front room and kitchen to do - did I say just?
Got carrots, spuds and runners to go with this roast pork dinner. Will get some peas out of freezer as well.
                              Tea anyone?
                              Nannys make memories

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
