Millport is the only town on the small island Cumbrae off the coast opposite Largs - the boats operate a 15" service to a small slip - see pic - only takes 10 minutes.

See you at the poly we've a couple of the regulars for company.

              • There was a thread about cookery books recently , but I'm too tired to look. I'm sure few here were commenting.

Mum n I were discussing a recipe she used to do. She gave book to brother and dunno what happened to it.
Good housekeeping book, not a hardback , posts no pictures. A recipe for cheese pie, no top just meting cheese.
I wonder if anyone has that book?
We all love cheese in our family ..even the dogs.

                • Evening all..
Well that day didn't turn out to be the scorchio they promised...I do love that word scorchio

My cycle went very well and ended up doing 83km. So happy with that

Did some weeding and gardening and spraying a few chillies that have greenfly..

Now playing Duck in the Pond with the kids and having a relaxing beer
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Very common in the years before Continent became the place to go for anyone with a bit of money to have a flat in places like Millport, Rothesay, Dunoon and other places in the Ayrshire coast - mothers and the kids would go down the coast for the summer holidays with dads joining them at the weekend. Some of my workmates eventually retired to their coastal house/flat and sold up their house in and around Glasgow, Gave them a comfortable retirement. One of my young brother's workmates had 2 flats in Millport. (not a boss and unmarried - just a guy who worked every hour he could get - he was one of the guys we called "night and day" there were quite a few of them back then including my older brother). This guy was pasty white from lack of sunlight and looked about 20 years older than his years after 12-16 hours a day 7 days a week for years excluding holidays. He would have made a great regular for the GR although I never saw him in a pub.

Hope he recovers fully...It's like all walks of life..you have good and bad drivers and cyclists too...I think some people don't realise how vulnerable cyclists are sometimes.... As a driver and cyclist, the one thing I notice is that many drivers don't overtake at a safe distance...
Anyway no point opening a debate that no one will be right or wrong on.

In other circumstance, there are dangers too but you accept and enjoy them.
For example, on one hill descent today I was doing 60km per hour speed and that is exhilarating.
Anyway time for a glass of wine...

                            • Mornin n'all n'all

Just been listening to the 7am bells.

I managed to cut the back field yesterday but it was too scorchio to do much else outside.
OH attacked inside our garage and it's now 80% sorted ( it also has a mazzanine needing sorting)... But again, too hot to finish off.

There are a couple of vide greniers I may pop over to later.
There was a guy at the tip who chucked a lovely galvanised bucket into a skip...I literally couldn't get over to him fast enough before it landed right at the bottom of the recycling container.
                              Such a piggin waste....

I'm just going to try and finish off some pink felt owls before we go out this morning.I'm under more pressure to get stuff done as it sadly looks like my friend can't share our stand this year at the summer fair.

Have a great Sunday peeps- it certainly feels like summer's finally here....

                              • Morning Nicernall from a wet, windy but mild Nestland, I've been manicuring the pond for the last 2 days but it's been hard going due to the 2 days of Summer we've just had. Anyway should be more pleasant today to get it finished & tidied up. Have a good one.
