Oh, okay thanks Hazel ~ wish I'd read your post before trying the 'jam' ...............

            • Morning all... just a quick look in again I'm afraid. Yesterday was my designated day to spend in the garden... and it poured it down, so it turned into a day cleaning the house. The plasterer's back today to undo all my hard work - it feels never ending!

I did manage to pick and eat a handful of huuuuge raspberries a handful of chillies and a bowlful of toms - I've got the golden queen tom seeds fermenting and the tumbler toms were slow roasted and are now having a nice olive oil bath.

I did spot 4 little aubergines which I'm quite excited about - hopefully the weather doesnt do them in!!

Hope everyone is well, happy and reaping the rewards of all their hard work!

              • Good morning all and we are having a mixed start to the day. Small glimpses of the sun in between misty rain being driven by a strong wind.
Going to try for a lazy day today as I have been run off my feet all the week.
                Have a good day all.

                  • Morning all Yesterday was a day of sorting out school clothes, labeling and taking up trousers. Finishing off getting everything ready for daughter's first day back at school tomorrow.

Got some leftover bacon so doing a fry up. Can use up some more tomatoes that way. Might try a runner bean chutney later if I get time. The tomato one is really scrummy. Filled 2 jars and had some left over for fridge which we keep dipping into - if it is supposed to taste better after maturing then not giving this one away that's for sure.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend. I love that September is all about the gluts Didn't really get that last year as the crops were not as good - not to the point of having an excess of anything anyway.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

                    • Morning Boys & Girls from a cool but dry Nestland. Just getting ready to mosey to Wick3s to pick up some timber & roof panels. The project today is to make a canopy over a bench so I can harvest rainwater to divert back into the pond. I'm trying to do away with the stream feed as it brings in too much sand & silt. Photos will follow if I manage to get it done.

                      • Morning all, lovely and sunny today but a tad cool. Having a lazy morning and then a big hockey game tonight! Had a look at my toms, seems as though it will be green tomato chutney this year, not one red tomato in sight...hardly any wonder as there has been virtually no sun this summer. Anyhoo off to have some tea and toast with, unlike Scarlet and her sardines for breakfast...yuk!, black pudding, yum! Everyone welcome to join me!
                        Have a great day!

                        • In case anyone was concerned re state of my mouth after testing tomato & chilli jam made yesterday ~ it was delish ~ and not as Hazel had predicted, turned into a solid lump when cooled ......

Can hardly bear to leave it, as it tasted yummy, sweetly spicy ..... shall be making more, methinks...!!!

                          • Got to get things ready for school tomorrow, including braving the attic to find eldests old uniform for youngest to wear. So instead I'm doing stuff in the garden & OH is attacking overgrown blackthorn /bramble thicket which is growing over the roof of shed & garage & causing a leak. At least it's dry after yesterday's total washout.
                            Another happy Nutter...
