    • Dropping in for a quick hello. Am working far too hard...

Plus, a bit miserable about my plot if the truth be told. All well watered yesterday morning, but it is now so hot and windy that nothing is coping. All my tom plants were withering by midday and none have perked up since. Plus, I've worked out why people keep giving us melons - they're cooking in the sun. Cooked melon doesn't have much to recommend it. Even one of the dogs turned his nose up at a slice yesterday. Unheard of.

Perhaps that should be on the rant thread... oh well.

See you soon. Do lots of things you shouldn't in the meantime. I want lots of stories when I get back.

rary - are you absolutely 100% sure you dropped it - trouser pockets can be inviting places for those seeking wealth although I suspect you rarely carry enough to make the transgression worthwhile You don't see many £1 coins dated 1971 - if you can get it back you might find it's worth a Bob or Two??

          • Good afternoon Folks, dull with occasional drizzle, though warm, was out a walk with the dog and noted that there is a good crop of crab apples this year tasted one or two and found some dry and bitter while others are palatable if a bit on the dry side, sad fly there are not a lot of rambles ready yet, I hope this changes in the next week or so, now sitting at my daughter's my wife with the tv on one of the boy's playing something on the computer, with the sound up, the other one playing music on his phone, the dog barking if she sees anyone walking by on the footpath, so after going for a supply of batteries for my hearing aid, I've turned the thing off, now waiting for their dad to come home, this must be the longest two hours of the day. Well I wish you all a good afternoon, enjoy your evening meal, and to those watching children I can give you two more very good well behaved boys, who do as they are told, the big problem is that they don't hear you for the noise they make, oh oh have to go their dad's coming in, the boy's are great

            • Hope you enjoyed your day off, NannySally

Afternoon all. Can officially say I'm pooped. Went blackberry picking today and not sunny but so humid which made it more tiring as had to walk round miles of bushes to get much worth picking - most of the berries seem really small this year. Got a bit scratched up in the process and stung by nettles as well. Hope the blackberry jam I make is worth it

Trying to work up energy to make some plum crumbles but failing. Might need to wait until tomorrow.

              Have a good evening all.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

              • Blackberry jam is lovely, well I made blackberry jelly now I think about it Marie.
A slight faff with the muslin to strain the juice, but definately worth it.
Didn't do much at all, made a few phone calls that needed doing, went for a walk, got washing in. Full stop. Oh and got the two parcels, one early morning, one late afternoon.
Just having egg on toast for tea, so hot and muggy here, don't fancy too much.
                Have a lovely evening folks

After helping with the delivery of compost to Barassie Primary this morning I went to the allotment this afternoon along with another helper to find our Chairman had spent 3 hours today starting to dig the trench to bury the pipe - by the time we got to the site he had finished the digging for stage 1and a very neat job he had made of it - after a chat and a small drink at the polybar the trench was filled in as can be seen in these pics - taking the pics means my work input is limited.

Looks like today will be spent mostly in the kitchen dealing with gluts of things. Raining here so better off indoors.

                            Have a great day all

I love Blackberry jam but not the pips, not keen on jelly it doesn't spread as well on my scones. Then I bought a sieve/colander for my Kenwood Chef it soon gets rid of the seeds and I end up with a lovely smooth spreadable jam. I'd have bought one years ago if I'd realised how handy it was.
