  • Bren - I make this tomato chutney minus the chilli because I don't like chillis: Homemade tomato chutney | BBC Good Food

It is really good although I have to simmer mine down for a lot, lot longer than the estimated 1 hour. It isn't like a chutney but a very good relish for eating with cheese.

I made the mistake of trying runner bean soup today. Just trying to do something different. Never again. Runner beans are delicious but not in soup! YUK! That was a waste of a couple of hours and my lovely runners Still having trouble getting the taste out of my mouth ...

However, runner bean chutney is divine. This recipe runner bean chutney | recipes from Riverford I made with less onions and more runners is sweet, sticky and so tasty. Again it took a lot longer than the 1 hour simmer time but worth it.

Susie I am getting hungry reading about your sweetcorn and that's after we just had cream tea at the local church LOL

Lovely day, planted up a new batch of lettuce which hopefully will grow well with good weather predicted. Been warm and pleasant. Need a nice coffee now.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

VC - I don't drive (honestly, I've never fancied it).

So I cycle everywhere, and in any weather - and probably hold the world record for the most amount of shopping bags ever propped onto handlebars and carted home.

However, I've been spoiled by staying in Hull - it's totally 'pancake territory', where the only hills we have are the occasional bridges.

Cycling 82kms in Ireland, with winds in the one afternoon !!!
Christ, I'm wheezing away just typing this post.

        • Well the weekend is over. Had another great day with my grandaughter. After mass we went out for lunch. We then went to the airport to collect her mammy and daddy. Flight delayed by over an hour but they arrived eventually. Drove them all home and now sitting here and the house is so quiet without her.
Unfortunately grandson was down with a migraine so couldnt be with us todayl
Feeling s bit down now after all the company.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Thanks for the link Marie I'll give the tomato one a go it'll make a change from HFW glutney I usually make using toms
I made runner bean chutney the other year but wasn't too keen on it so was surprised because I love runners i often cook them with toms and onions as a side dish and that's tasty.

We've spent most of the day outdoors making the most of the sunshine

I had the same problem Susie, but my wife said she was just showing granddaughter where to get some tomatoes
Was doing some work in the back garden today, where it was warm enough but quite windy, OH put some washing out, and it was dried very quickly, or so I was told, lifted the last of my potatoes then covered the bed with cardboard the shreded branches mixed with grass cuttings, I dont think I will be putting anything into the ground now till next year, as the night temperature is begining to cool a bit, not too happy with my leeks as they are not as thick as I would like, they are only about 1/2in. and with the lower temperatures I cant see them bulking up much more, will wait and see and if they do I will let you know. Need to go now as we have one of the grandsons staying tonight and it`s time he was in bed, so I wish you all a good night enjoy the coming week, and the good weather some of you will be getting, it looks like we might have some warm rain, so. Goodnight

              • Good evening Folks, back on , took grandson up to bed and read him a story, he fell asleep, sat for a short time to make sure he was sound asleep, and yes I fell asleep now awake, wide awake, I wonder what I could read to make me fall asleep, and no the one I was reading to my grandson won't do. Well again I will wish you a good night, I think I will go and read a seed catalogue. Goodnight

                • Had a great day mainly mucking around outside with children, & OH made a tyre swing for eldest child & received hugs all afternoon as a result. Youngest made friends with a worm, & both children successfully herded the dog back into the garden after she went for a wander in the field next door.

Started making inroads in the egg mountain with a seriously delicious apple & cinnamon cake using 2 lovely big cookers I was given (still have about 20 cookers to use). Omelette for lunch & biscuit making again with youngest after school.

Need to make some egg recipes that don't use large quantities of sugar or cheese

Dishwasher on, school shirts named & ironed thanks to OH (payment for cake) & packed lunches made for OH & eldest.

Off to sleep, I'm rambling again. Thanks for sticking around to the end if you made it this far!
                  Another happy Nutter...
