Today was another wash-out. Tried a bit of weeding but it was too wet for anything.
Never mind, there's always tomorrow (when I have to catch up with yesterday as well).

          • when you start your own veg variety breeding program. Can you start their names with F , there's not many out there. Well I can find them

            Flowers French marigold, forsythia

              • I could grow some Fuchsias there and I have a tomato this year called "Father Frost". Whether he'd survive outdoors is another matter. Must try again with Fennel, especially the Bronze one. Sounds like a job for today!!
                Thanks SP.

Only in small doses -not a garden full of the thing.
Its taught me a lesson though - when you pull up something, don't throw it over the fence into the unloved land beyond, because, one day, you may own that bit of land and they'll be there, waiting for you.
In Sunday School, we were always told not to sin, as one day our sins would find you out. Montbretia is my sin.

                        • Bed 6F has been weeded to within an inch of its life. Its amazing how much more you see when you sit down on a log and look closely at the bed and the plants growing in it. I even spotted a potato plant that must have grown from the potato bags that were emptied onto the soil there 2 years ago - and Day lilies, raspberries, worcesterberry (spikey), honesty, lemon balm and less Montbretia than when I started.
I've planted Field Beans and sown Bronze and Green Fennel - all old seeds though so I'm not expecting much.
Was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours in the sunshine.

Its a bit hard to make out a "bed" in the photo but believe me, I know where it is.

This was the Tomatillo bed one year. Now its home to a ?10 year old apple tree, and a 2 year old Beure Hardy pear and Reine Claude plum /aka Green Gage. The pear is flowering for the first time so I'm hoping to try at least one.
                            Some perennial Geraniums too.
I sowed Godetia and Gaillardia last year with minimal success.
Not sure what else is lurking in it!!

                              • I'm not ignoring your suggestions, SP, I'm sorting my seed stash alphabetically.
Last night it was the Roots - radish, carrot, parsnip, swede, turnip and beetroot.
Simple method, piece of paper, alphabet down the side, a column for each root and a X in the column for each letter I found.
Then I pulled out 2 packets for each letter (where possible). The usual missing letters - I,J,O,Q,X,Z.
Their places will be filled with mystery seeds - Illegible, Junk, Old, Questionable, X rated and Zzzzzzzz.

Tonight its brassicas - mainly kale with some cabbages to fill the gaps.
