  • Day 19 S

I won't burden you with all the beds I haven't reported on - here's today's Bed 19 which are the 3 triangular beds.

One bed has an apple tree and rosemary; the middle one is blueberries and sage and the 3rd of gooseberries and various herbs. There are some other things plants too but I can't remember what's in which triangle.
Its great to see the tiny fruit on the bushes - hope for the summer.

Bed 24 is the Raspberry Room. Last year it was more of a "room" as it was a debris netted hooped structure. However, it didn't cope well with the winter winds and it is now history.
Most of the raspberries are Joan Js which are hardly visible in these photos taken 1st May.
They've grown since then and needed tying to the wires.

This morning I planted 3 Tromboncino and a Serpente di Sicilia squash against the fence.
This afternoon, it rained. Perfect timing.

Just some random photos. All the beds are too full now to have an overview.

Kale that has grown from cut-off bits I threw to the chooks when this was their run. Amazingly, its almost perfect, no holes, no pests. Magic kale!

Bijou flowers - as beautiful as sweet peas without the perfume.

Land cress going to seed - I'm leaving it.
            All looking a bit overgrown.

Chives, calendula and carrots - or is it cosmos?

            • 2019 - It all starts again!

It always seems to be this time of year when I awaken this thread and Plots 1-30 wake up too . The beds this year seems to be a few weeks ahead of last year. Weather permitting I'll take another set of photos tomorrow and bore you with another month of updates!!

Here's the last version of the Plots 1-30 Plan and the latest. Spot the Difference. There will be a test.

                • Top marks for observation, SP.
Beds 29 and 30 are off plan, somehow they were overlooked when I did my doodle
They're closer to the house, West of 6F.

I do have a few extras to sow in each bed this year.
The original plan was for each bed to have a fruit, veg, herb and flower, ideally beginning with the appropriate letter of the alphabet.
This year I'm going to add a bean, squash, root and a brassica to the mix in each bed, just to make it extra complicated and difficult for anyone to follow.

                      Asparagus
                      Apple
                      Antirrhinums
                      Bean ? ( can't find one starting with A )
                      All year round cauliflower
                      Acorn squash
                      Amsterdam forcing carrots

                      • Thanks SP

From memory, Bed 1 had a plum tree and some mint and the chickens and their run, when I started this.

I've successfully grown Aquilegia, Achillea , ornamental Alliums and Achocha, Aquadulce Broad Beans
Sowed but failed - Asparagus peas, Anise hyssop, Asters, Atriplex rubra/Purple Orach and Alyssum.
Planning to sow Aquadulce again and Asparagus kale, the rest is undecided so all suggestions are welcome.

                        • Well that's just typical. The only thing you're growing that I thought of, is the thing I missed off my list anise.
I'll try to guess better for the B's

                              • Bed 1A

The original 1A and the old chicken run area which the chooks still like to visit. Its very random in there with a lot of white comfrey at the far end that will need to come out if I'm going to grow anything there. I'll wait for the bees to finish it first and hoick it out before it seeds everywhere.
Also need to pull up some garlic mustard which is OK to eat in small doses but its not my favourite. The Honesty may have seen its last flowering there too.
