  • My visit to Kew

Went a day ago and it was fab.

The Lilly house was full of passifloras of every sort. The tropical house had gone a bit over but the temperate was sublime. Shame it had no real examples of fruit like you get in Eden.

Not too fond of the arboretum as it seemed over-pruned. I was a bit disappointed to see redwoods that should reach over 200ft chopped in half and many trees with too many branches missing. It seemed as if every new nurserymen had tried to 'get to grips' with the job and do something to keep their salary. Still, I saw some massive oaks.

By the way, I thought the new evolution greenhouse was a fantastic idea and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Overall it was expensive, but worth a visit if you're not too fussed about seeing fruit, veg or flowing boarders.

I was a concession and it cost £10.50-ish, under 17s are free!

I went a few years back and loved it, but it was spolit by the planes over head every few minutes.

We went several years ago, when our daughter was living in London. We really enjoyed the day but it was coloured by spending a full day with our girl and by the scrummy impromptu alfresco lunch of fresh bread, toms and hummous!
I agree with Denise about the planes - a darned nuisance, so loud and low. Well worth a visit though.
