I've got a load of grasshoppers in my garden too. I can hear them more than I see them, though.

I have a ...... MOLE! He/she had decided to invade my front lawn - not a very large area and it has no less then 22 mole hills in it! All popped up in the last two days! I have nothing against moles, but I can't get up my front path any longer because of the mole hills! The dog dug up a mole hill yesterday and within minutes said mole had built the mole hill up again!

I had no idea what it was when I first saw it because I couldn't believe 1) It was a moth out in broad daylight (bright sunshine too!), 2) It looked and flew like a mini humming bird and 3) It had the most enormous tongue thingy (don't know the technical term for the bit they suck the nectar up with!!).
I'm now intrigued as I've never seen one before and until yesterday I had no idea they even existed!! Are they common? If so, where?
Has anyone else seen them this year? I thought it was soooo cool
Heres one in August captured feasting on nectar laden Buddleia "Pink Delight" I was overjoyed to catch one on camera as they are so fast they are usually a blur
