Uploading photos on an ipad - size?

This seems to be an issue with iphones possibly to do with the updates. Does anyone without an iphone have an issue with smaller images?

This is a high res photo taken on a DSLR but posted from an iPad mini running iOS 9.2.1

Lots of detail from Mount Kilimanjaro in the background to different shades in the foreground. I'm expecting the image to be vastly reduced.

And yes, it's tiny . The attached image is 456 x 304. The uploaded image was 5456 x 3632.

I'll post the same photo from my Android tablet shortly.
