  • Why do you have to be 18 to buy a barbecue?

Just browsing Tesco website to get a cheapo bbq with the last boost vouchers I have and was surprised to see you need to be 18 to buy one.

    Why?

Is this one of those (imo) stupid contradictory rules? You can move out, get a flat, buy a cooker etc but you can't buy a bbq?

If you wanted to set fire to something you'd just take matches or a lighter or start a bonfire, not carry around a bbq. Maybe I'm missing something?

I'll have to make sure I have a fully made up face on when I go to pick it up, just in case. *cough*

thats just mad (not that you...ahem...need make up to buy one) but why on earth would your average 17 year old even want one? and now I'm sitting here trying to imagine what illegal but fun thing I could I could do with one.

My chemist won't sell me citric acid to put in my elderflower cordial.
I am rather older than 18 (one of my daughters is 27), everso slightly....lets say 'Rubenesque' and could possibly be described as mumsie.

Turns out the jumped up little twerp wanted to save me from from the perils of using citric acid with heroin.
    HEROIN???

Thank goodness for those little busybodys who protect us from ourselves eh?

A simple label would solve that, surely? For people of all ages!

And since we allow kids of sixteen to have sex (and resultant babies) and kids of seventeen to fight and die for their country...18 for BBQ still sounds ridiculous to me.

I always find it amusing the time I got id'd at a petrol station to buy cigs. I have driven in, already paid for petrol but you want id for cigs

There is a 16 age limit on knives as well. Also the 2 paracetemol products in one transaction but you can go round and make as many transactions as you like

Sorry I am no help what so ever

Well I think this thread just proves without doubt ' the law is an ass'. At times at least.

I'm glad others feel the same, I did wonder if I was being a bit victorish (as in meldrew).

I've long since thought that this country needs a complete overhaul, both in basic rulings and higher up the chain. I can never fathom why it's ok to allow MP's to claim for expensive lunches and bottles of wine when the rest of the country is being told they must shoulder cutbacks. 'We're all in this together' surely means luxuries should have been immediately curtailed, or at least capped at a sensible (to normal folk) amount? Grrrr!

I have many 'inconsistencies' like that, that bug me but that's a whole new discussion.

Muddled raised a good point, you can be responsible for a baby at a young age but not a means to cook sausages outside. It's ridiculous.

I agree. We should have a blanket age limit of 35 for everything!
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
                        Pumpkin pi.
