Dragon in Law.....

I've seen a few posts that have referred to in Law relationships that aren't the best.

I'd like to address the balance. Between us, my hubby and I have never had that many parents that were are alive during our marriage.

My husband's parents died years before I met him, such a shame, I would LOVE to have parents in law.

Because hubby's parents died so early he really formed a relationship with my parents.

Very sadly my father died before me and hubby married, my mum did the wedding speeches, and that needs a whole post of its own!

Hubby refers to my mum as Dragon in Law, they absolutely love one another and the nick name is one of affection.

Sorry for my ramblings, but I just wanted to say that sometimes husbands adore their mother in laws.

By the way, my mum now refers to herself as the dragon in law to her friends and it's very funny, last year Jim (my hubby) bought my mum a dragon light thing for Christmas!

My hubbys parents also both died way before we married in fact when he was 17. My parents are still alive - although dad has severe alzheimers, anyhow my hubby adores my mum,although when she rings up he jokingly always says ' it's your b***dy mother.......' she laughs and tells him she'll clip him round the ear when she sees him next!

I too had a great relationship with the dragon in law, after her husband did I used to go around each night and take the dog for a walk for her because her mobility was not so good

My OH also calls my Mum the dragon. We don't see her that often to ever have an arguments do they've always had a good relationship. My brother calls his mother in law - The Oracle, all seeing, all knowing

I absolutely loved my mother in law, in fact my husband and I both got on well with our parents in law and all the parents got on well with each other! Quite a blessing I think. Sadly they are all gone now.

I mock my MiL but she is great really, a little of her trolly though.

She has the annoying habit of getting her purse out whenever I do something for her, a generational thing I think.

Wouldn't dream of taking a penny from her

My OH gets on great with my mum , gets on great with dad too although my dad has dementia/Alzheimer's so knowing who anyone is , well. Bless him.

The getting purse out reminds me of my gran , fond memories.

I actually knew my MIL before meeting my OH. We used to work together and always got on well, but I met OH without knowing who her mother was - even the surname didn't help, since she was a product of MILs first marriage, so it was a bit of a shock when I found the connection.
I sometimes think that I get on better with her than her daughter does. Having worked closely with someone tends to give you a different perspective I think.

We to were very lucky SWMBO always got on with my parents, and eventually after being married a few years and proving I was going to look after the daughter I had a great relationship with both my in laws.

FiL did not approve at first and thinking back I can hardly blame him..........

I actually knew my MIL before meeting my OH.

My Mum knew my OH before we met. She actually said to me several months before I met him that she had found the pefect bloke for me I told her in no uncertain terms that she was talking a load of rubbish! She didn't have the decency to tell me that he was the one she'd spotted until I told her that he had proposed!!

OH's dad had died before we met and mine died shortly afterwards but get on great with my MIL, she's great and is effectively a second mum to me when I need it.

From a father's perspective, we have three lovely daughters. One has stayed married and the others are in long term relationships. But know this and I remind the lads often. There isn't a bloke on this earth good enough for any of them...............
