I agree Susie - make up makes me feel presentable, professional and more confident at work.

I suppose then when I'm at home and make up free, in my PJs (Sorry VC) there's a distinction between home and work.

Importantly... I wouldnt go anywhere in PJs in a million years - and its rare that anyone is unexpected at the door... although last night the cat had a fight so I did have to run down the street in my PJs, dressing gown and slippers to rescue him!

I wore makeup when I was at work, and also when I wasn't. Looking back on it now I didn't need it. Now I do need it I rarely bother.

I put it on when I need to boost my confidence, for parties and for the Town Meetings and annual Town Council AGM.

I also used to wear high heels to work and my job wasn't sedentary. Nowadays, if I need to wear them, I tend to wear flats and change just before I get to the event.

The boys all get in the shower before me in the mornings and use all the hot water! so I'm always in my PJs for the first couple of hours in the morning, often potter in the GH in my Jim jams. They aren't pink though with Disney characters on..

Going out is the only time I do wear it and then only if it's an evening type event and I feel like it. Never felt expected to wear any for anywhere I've been. For work I dress smartly and professionally but relatively conservatively so if I'm going out I want to feel different. That often doesn't mean makeup but my work and out of work wardrobe are very separate . If I did wear make up every day I'd have to do it differently for non work occaisions and I don't think I've got the imagination anyway .

Only ever wear PJs in bed, always dressed before I come down for breakfast and until I go up at night. Need a shower to wake me up in the morning and would be weird to put night clothes back on again after that!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Like SP, make up is not appropriate with the jobs I've had/have - stud groom/stud manager, gardener, and pork pie maker and packer, so I've never worn any. If people don't like my face they don't have to look at it, is my philosophy Not allowed perfume or jewellery now either, including a watch.

Following on from BM saying it's not called war-paint for nowt, I remember reading "Lord of the Flies" at school and being shocked at the part where the boys make masks and paint themselves, and it completely changes their characters from young schoolboys to potential cruel killers. I think that was probably the moment when I decided I would never use make-up.

I do think wearing make-up changes people, if only in subtle ways..... it is a mask behind which to hide, a transformation into a different persona....

Also, I can't be arrised, either to learn how to use it, or to spend the money on it. Must have saved squids over the years

Oh, and all our waste pies go to be processed, boiled up, and the fat is skimmed off and used for....guess what?

I don't wear make up to work, never have. The students wear more than most of the staff (even though they aren't supposed to)! I do own a pair of PJs - they are for emergencies (ie hospital) or for when I stay at someone's house, as a glimpse of me 'in the altogether' might be too disturbing. I do slob about in my dressing gown in the mornings and frequently go out and water the greenhouse before I get dressed for work. This morning I went and put the bins out whilst still in my dressing gown. No-one in our little cul-de-sac bats an eyelid; we are all equally as bad However, I do draw the line at going shopping in a state of undress. I feel really bad if I call in at the supermarket after I have been to the allotment and am in my gardening scruffs! Usually muddy and always unkempt.

Yes, I wear make up. Not a lot but I like to feel I have made the effort to look my best.
Also get highlghts in my hair and have a real weakness for earrings.
Dont tend to wear high heels very much nowadays but still wear footwear with some kind of heels rather than flat.
Gardening I always wear trainers except on wet days when I wear boots.
You would never, ever catch me outdoors in PJ's.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.

If I'm going out I put on a little foundation, otherwise I never wear makeup. I'm afraid I'm a bit scruffy really!

This is the bit I really don't understand, why do people think not wearing makeup is scruffy? Badly applied makeup is far scruffier than au natural every day of the week.
