Just a little curious. I can see that some folk on this GrapeVine are titled 'forum moderators', and are familiar with seeing your names. Then yesterday there was a new thread regarding 'gluts' - posted by a mod whose name I've not come across before ...

How do you become a 'mod' and do you 'throw' people off the Vine for asking inappropriate questions .....

The gluts post is from someone on the editorial team of the magazine, which owns/hosts this place and features a few things from this forum. Usually a post like that states that they are from the editorial team.

I think you are referring to one of the editorial team who work on the magazine. We don't kick people off for asking daft questions as unasked questions are the daft ones!

We try to keep the vine as friendly as possible and occasionally have to let VC wield her pointy stick

Our job is made easy by the fantastic members of the forum which we often refer to as "total strangers but virtual friends".

Our reward is knowing that we have a supportive and vibrant community.

There are 2 sorts of Mod - the official Admin Editorial/System ones and the others who didn't stand back in time and were plucked out of obscurity as humble Grapes and given weapons of "torture" to apply when necessary.
Greenleaves is the Weed Fairy and will visit your plot and cover it with weed dust if you're norty. Most of the other Mods keep their "weapons" hidden but there are some Big Red Buttons around that are used on the very Norty Grapes to make them explode.

You all know my "weapon" and I'm specially trained in its use.

I have wondered how you become a Mod. Is there some Mod site somewhere that advertisers new openings or is it an invitation of special people only

Welllllllllllll, when I started Modding, I was a bit unsure of what I could do and didn't want to ban anyone by mistake so I started with a stick tipped with soft sponge, so that I couldn't inflict too much pain. As my confidence grew, the sponge was replaced with something harder and pointier
I still have a feather tipped one that I use for tickling
