Cricket, love it or hate it or just don't understand it.....

When I met OH 15 years ago I knew what cricket was and I also knew what a boring game it was. I mean, what other sport could take place over 5 days and end in a draw....

When we met we made an agreement, he joined me with the horses and I joined him with his love of the leather on willow.

15 years on and he loves horses and I love cricket.

I realise that cricket is very much a marmite sport, so, who on this forum is a cricket fan?

This weekend I've loved pottering around the garden whilst listening to Test Match Special. You just can't beat radio commentary, it has to keep the listener interested. All the better for England winning the (ridiculous) 2 match series over Sri Lanka.

Who else is a fan?

I'm not a cricket fan at all but I love the rules:

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that’s in the side that’s in goes out, and when he’s out he comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out.
When they are all out, the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.
There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

Hahahaha! I've seen that before BM and it very very much sums up cricket.

After 15 years I'm still asking OH what's going on! It doesn't distract from my enjoyment of watching/ listening to it though.

I love all sport. Cricket, tennis, athletics, swimming, cycling, rugby etc etc etc. I'm not ashamed to say that during London 2012 I took 2 weeks off work and went to see lots of different sports.

I don't understand the game at all but with it's weird terminology and slow pace it seems like a relic of England of past times. Summer days on village greens and cucumber sandwiches.

Someone is conspiring against cricket as I can't find a like button on your post.

You have hit the nail on the head, to watch (in person) test cricket it has to be treated as a day out with a picnic and a book. That's test cricket - one day and T20 are very different

I love the cricket, I have TMS on wherever possible during test matches, even at the allotment if the plot neighbours aren't there.

I've never been able to play, but because I was good with numbers I ended up being scorer for our primary school team. Scoring forces you to watch every ball and to learn what's going on.

I spent a day at Lord's for the Ashes test last year, most memorable!

Ah, at last, a fellow fan Martin. I will have to now admit to spending a day at the Oval watching England getting trounced by India, we had tickets to the second day and I copped a strop and OH went to day 2 on his own lol!
