  • Ideas... 50th not garden related at all ...but I love gardening

OH is eeeeek this yr .
He has mentioned getting away for few days (mainly due to his mother who will take over otherwise and come here for a week again),
We need maybe a log cabin ? Static ? Type place, coastal, or somewhere nice festive time (his birthday is few days before C-mas, just us two and a Labrador .
    Not best time of yr.

I love Whitby, we have camped there before. Fab for us and the dogs. I think it was just called Whitby Holiday park and as well as camp sites it has cabins.
Stunning location right on the sea and a fab walk along the costal path down to Whitby, of course passing by the ruins of Whitby Abbey and all the Dracula stories.
We were there in the summer but I would imagine that winter would also be wonderful.

Amsterdam and hire some cycles. It's not a huge city but there are reasonable hotels on the outskirts and cycling is 1) easy. 2) Flat. 3) Safe because everyone cycles and the road systems are geared that way.
There is plenty to see and getting there is easy by road, rail and air.

Not far from you & a fantastic beach for the Lab, I would plump for Primrose Valley.

It's strange, how we feel we want to go somewhere else : I love the Lake District and have always wanted to spend C******** and New Year there, somewhere fairly remote, tackling a Wainwright (not too strenuous though ..!) an old stone cottage, warm and cosy with a big log fire, shaggy rug on the hearth, lots of booze in the cupboard ..... It's only my idea of heaven though, the DH and kids worst nightmare ...! wot, no internet aaaaaarrrrrgghh

Anyway, sorry CG, no help at all to you .....!!!!

It can be difficult trying to find somewhere dog friendly to stay. And you'd need to book soon, I'd think as places are going to go fast at that time of year.

                  Hope you find some inspiration!

How about a narrow boat? Many of the canals are beautiful. Nice waterside pubs, lots of doggy excercise spots and if you hear that the MIL has tracked you down you can just move on.

Depending on budget Forestholidays.co.uk have lovely cabins in various locations and dogs are welcome. There can be pricey though. We used to go here on family holidays till the prices went up.

Otherwise I think its Skye Cottages have dog friendly places all over the country

I love Amstrdam but it was a bit tricky riding a tandem through town lovely and flat though. Containergardener, you can get some great trolleys for dogs .

My best 50th birthday present cost very little money but did cost SWMBO a lot of time and thought. She waded through hundreds of photographs to put together an album charting my life with a quirky notation/explanation under each pic. I love it as it was so thoughtful and still 19 years on I get great pleasure looking through it.
