Lack of spots

Sunspots that is.

Scientists report that the sun has been completely blank for four days this month not a single sun spot anywhere. Not a one off this as already happened several times in the last year or so.

The last time solar activity was this low was 1645 the Maunder Minimum a mini ice age when the Thames used to freeze over.

This time they are predicting a mini ice age about 2019/20 so we are going back to the prediction of the 1960s when I first heard a mini ice age was on the way.

Personally I just wish they would make their mind up hot or cold, cacti or pine trees.

On a serious point this summer is, as far as I can tell wetter and colder than last year.

Summer here so far is hotter and drier. Low to mid-40s in the shade already and very little rain since last autumn.

I think the dodgy summers were having is caused by the transition of El Niño in to La Niña. Once La Niña kicks in fully Blighty is supposed to get an Indian summer and then as La Niña is supposed to last about 1-3 years that will probably mean in Blighty hose pipe bans in a few years and very cold winters. The one thing I don't understand is everywhere else is supposed to get much colder in La Niña. Typical us refusing to do what we're supposed to do again?...

Don't worry all, the greenhouse effect causing global warming will probably mean that a lack of sunspot activity and La Niña means we won't get fried quite so quickly
