Herbert the Hedgehog - slugbusta!!! (hopefully)

It might not be the name they call themselves but I've decided that his / her name is Herbert.
Mrs Balders was just out the door to pick dear daughter up from prom night celebrations and gave me a shout - I spent 5minutes chatting to her (the hedgehog not Mrs B.) and it was lovely.
Not the greatest pics but hey ho!


On the flipside, last week it was a big old rat - I didn't mention that to Mrs B., nor the hedgehog, nor did I take a photo.

I know we have one around cos I found some scat the the other day on the patio....would love to see it again.....hopefully it's the one we rescued a few years ago when it was teeny tiny....or better still, child of.....

Spiny Norman my 6ft invisible hedgehog does nothing to assist with slugs, but there again he (I know his a he because his name is Norman) is imaginary.

I must go visit Dug and Dinsdale Parana haven't seen those two brothers for quite some time!

TY for the scat mention . Now realise the poo in the veg patch the other day was hedgehog, forgot they were an option.

Ok...tis about 5/6 cm long, black , often quite watery, and you can usually see bits beetle wing cases in it if you poke it around a bit with a stick.
Try putting out a couple of dishes of dog biscuits or jelly cat food and in the morning you'll most likely see done around/ between or even in the dishes

I can do serious, but life is too short not to enjoy it and have a laugh

The couple of dishes of dog biscuits or jelly cat food would be eaten by the site foxes. We also have cats, slowworms, mice, rats, frogs and lots of birds but I have never seen a Hedgehog on the allotment.

Foxes and cats do leave little presents for me to find from time to time -

Rat safe? As I said Ratty the Rat has been spotted inthe hedge above the wall that Herbert was photgraphed against...

Didn't know about the lungworm - knew it can get into dogs... I think I'll put a hog house in the garden somewhere behind foliage. Maybe some sunflower hearts and mealworm from time to time.

Dry dog food is also good idea. They need feeding up at this time of year....and. They have huuuuuge appetites!
