Listen to two albums per week

I love music.
Most of the music I love would be regarded as 'white noise' by many/most

Anyhow, I've found myself picking and choosing a bit (lot) via online streaming and home media server -so I don't often listen to an album from top to tail. That means I'm missing out on the non-singles for example.
Thought it might be nice to start doing the whole album thing again - putting up with those songs that frankly aren't all that but discovering some gems along the way. Maybe aim for 2 a week. (I'll try to make sure that at least one is something that someone else here might have heard of).

Tonight I'm listening to Nevermind by Nirvana.

Balders Bought PURE McCartney today and ADELE 25 and listened to Mike Oldfield - Voyager which I have not played for a long long time. Tomorrow I have planned Gregorian Chant, Joe Brown - Hitting the HI Spots and Dina Carroll - So Close. Unless I see something on the FUN Just for Fun thread that leads me to play someone else.

This week I've been listening to an assortment of tracks by Pete Atkin and Clive James. They made a string of critically-acclaimed albums back in the 70s that were almost completely ignored by the record-buying public; then started writing and performing again in the new millennium when the internet let their old fans find them.

Last week I stumbled across this little interview of them working on their 2015 studio album and had to buy the album on the back of it. It came this week and it's really good (despite being rather over-produced for my ears). So I've been listening to a lot of their old stuff as well for old time's sake; I've got most of it on vinyl or cd.

Sadly this will be their last album. Clive has been written off by his doctors for years, but it looks like the end is getting close now. While Pete had an accident with a bus earlier this year and lost an eye so doesn't look likely to be performing. But they've left a legacy of music they can be proud of.

Those of you who remember Clive James from his newspaper column or his TV shows may not realise what a great lyricist he was! Anyway, the interview is here for anyone interested:

Most of the music I love would be regarded Tonight I'm listening to Nevermind by Nirvana.

Classic album, still sounds good. I've never downloaded or streamed as like to own my music and to have it physically so tend to listen to while albums mainly and usually love a random track more than a hit - actually am usually unaware if something is a hit anymore. Tends to be more CDs these days but still love a wet Sunday afternoon listening to old vinyl.

That's quite something Jay - everyone is different though. I can't really imagine not listening to music. I tend to listen to music instead of tv - mostly listening to something whilst I post here.

This week I have rediscovered the CD from the musical 'Bombay Dreams' (The best theatre production I have EVER seen) and it is absolutely the greatest Housework CD bar none....I got loads done!

Also been enjoying the foo fighters (skin and bones) and foo fighters (greatest hits).

Wow, I can't imagine a life without music. I have songs for every occasion and mood which will calm me or give me energy or whatever I need. I don't like wandering around with headphones on blocking out natural noise but at home or in the car I love music and associated lyrics. Don't think I even realised that there were people who hated music, certain types obviously but there is such a wide choice I had assumed there was something for everybody - even a deaf friend likes heavy beat stuff where he can feel the vibrations.

Good idea.... and Nirvana is a good place to start too

Tried doing this before with a target of one album per week and it just fell away on me unfortunately...
I like a broad range of music and have many CDs which have been ripped to a NAS at this stage..Most listening done as streaming and/or thru' my Sonos system now, so it is very easy to get into the habit of listening to recent stuff that pops up rather than either searching the My Library part or making an effort to dig down for older stuff..
I'll keep thinking about best way around that

One wall of my office is floor to ceiling DVD's that have been taken out of the plastic boxes and into plastic sleeves and they are in boxes filed alphabetically by artist and title of the albums. Only a few special like Bowie, Queen, Rick Wakeman, Rod Stewart, Jools Holland etc. remain in their original cases. There are a few collectors items like Jeff Waynes Spartacus that remains in it's box and case.

All have been ripped and turned into mp3 files and they are backed up on two hard disks.

I could not stand life without music, I'm truly blessed in being able to hear music and the birds in the morning.

One of my boys plays drums and wanted to see Evelyn Glennie, (percussionist and since an early age has been profoundly deaf). She gave a hour or so talk and demonstrated playing a percussion instrument, while doing so I could instantly hear the LOUD air con fan that worked in time to the music. After she finished she said it was no mishap and that she had worked her piece around it. I was amazed. She also often plays barefoot so she can feel the vibrations through her feet.
