Thank you - am having a go at making Bastani tonight: Persian ice cream which has a custard base and is flavoured with saffron, rose water and pistachios. I had it at the restaurant down the road on the weekend and it is incredible.http://mudandgluts.com - growing fruit and veg in suburbia

We have all done that. If you catch it in time, stick the base of the pan in a sink full of cold water or get it into ug ASAP and use a stick blender on it. These can rescue a lumpy egg custard base.
I found a gorgeous recipe for saffron Easter bread in a magazine. It was incredibly addictive. I can let you have it if you want. I can email it as an attachment. X
