Thank you - am having a go at making Bastani tonight: Persian ice cream which has a custard base and is flavoured with saffron, rose water and pistachios. I had it at the restaurant down the road on the weekend and it is incredible.

We have all done that. If you catch it in time, stick the base of the pan in a sink full of cold water or get it into ug ASAP and use a stick blender on it. These can rescue a lumpy egg custard base.
I found a gorgeous recipe for saffron Easter bread in a magazine. It was incredibly addictive. I can let you have it if you want. I can email it as an attachment. X
