Bad - my Mum had a stroke on Tuesday
Good - by great good fortune I had the day off work to get my car MOT'd so I was there when it happened.
Bad - she's on warfarin so the paramedics could give her no treatment till bloods were done at hospital
Good - we got to the hospital within an hour of the stroke happening.
Bad - if the INR was above 1.8, no treatment
Good - after being above 2 for 6 weeks she'd had it tested the day before and it was 1.7.
Good - the mega dose of blood thinners dispersed the blood clot
Bad - it also means the slightest touch brings up a bruise.
Bad - huge bruise and very swollen left leg where she was manhandled onto the CT scanner
Good - apart from that she's just about back to normal in speech, arm and hand movement, and I'm sure if it wasn't so bruised, leg movement too.
She's making a good recovery, and I hope that once her tablets are all sorted out, she will be able to come home with home physio. They are taking her off warfarin onto a newer drug, and changing some of her other pills too.
(LD, she's in the LRI)
