I'm in the Uk for a few days and have managed to log in here using the wonders of modern science.

My copy of HP 7 will be waiting for me when I get back to France, ordered from Amazon.fr in English - the French version isn't published until October!

So to catch up I've just read 4, 5 & 6 in sequence so I'm really up to date and full of Hogwarts, HP and the others.

And another (French) forum I belong to has asked the Mods to stop anybody posting the ending until we've all had a chance to read it.

Anybody who posts the ending deserves a thrashing, We will try to keep any reference to it off the forum for a week or two, by then it will be "out" in the open.

Well said Piglet. Would hate to accidentally catch the ending before I enjoy the book.

          Just Don't..!

Well done piglet. Would be very annoying after waiting two years, with a few hours to go, somebody ruins it.

I live near Fosse Park Leicester so I have a sainsburys, Asda and Borders open at midnight if i want it.

But as we are off early on a cheap beano from work to London tomorrow we will pop in Asda on the way to the bus to get the other half his weekend papers, me the book and some sweeties.

(and perhaps some wet weather gear. )

I'm with BW on this - fairly good books that have taken on a life of their own after excessive hype. Don't see what all the fuss is about - unless you're between 10 and 12 years old

Agree with you, will probably get around to reading it at some point as have read the others but the thought of standing out in the cold and rain for something I could get cheaper and easier at a latter date just doesn't make sense to me.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm sick of Harry Potter, working in the book trade, that's all I've heard for months and it means I won't get my post before going to the allotment, the postman will be weighed down with copies of Harry Potter.
The Asda thing got sorted, so they're back on supply with the publisher - rahter a big publicity stunt really.
Spare a thought for small bookshops who can't afford to do the stupid prices coming from the big guys, they just can't afford to slash prices in the same way, also they'll lose money, so much buying will go into Harry Potter, sales of other books will drop for a good while.
It's a nightmare having to deal with HP, not only do you have to cut prices to the bone, making very little if any profit, there is very little returns facility, overorder and you can make a huge loss, you don't even have to overorder, enough cancelled or uncollected orders will put a huge dent in your profits too.
All those parties, midnight openings etc cost too, overtime etc.
Great for you, the customer getting books at silly prices but there are hidden costs, just like the perils of small grocers up against supermarkets, small bookshops are finding it tough to survive.

Sorry, no. If it had been a solar or lunar eclipse, then maybe. But for a book I don't think so. I don't have the time to read them anyway at the moment. Got about 5 really good ones waiting to get started, but every time I start reading my eyes close. Need a holiday (not like the last one)

My daft son (wonder who he takes after?) and his partner are getting it at midnight in Scarborough. He reckons when he's read it he'll get a T-shirt printed with 'XXXXX dies' and wear it around the town. Good job I know he's a cheapskate! If it's a choice between a joke t-shirt and beer then it'll be 'pass the glass' !

I wouldn't dream of it. Just a load of commercial hype.
