Heard on the radio that Childline are putting more people on their call centre this weekend in case they get calls from children who need "councelling" if a major character meets their end.

What is the world comming to?

I strolled into Tecoids and picked a copy up on my way in for £4.99 to go with my other "classic" childrens books and like or loathe it HP books will go down as a classic series of books just as the ones by C S Lewis, Enid Bylton, Terry Pratchett and Robert Louis Stevenson to name but a few have.

In this day of computors and televisions I am just glad some children can, and indeed do choose to read an old fashioned book.

I've just re-read Phoenix and sort of had more of the detail in my head than I saw in the film - but overall, I thought it was quite good, seeing as they don't have tyhe time to develop some of the characterisations that you get in the book. And I thought that the final fight was really good, going to be interesting to see what they do with the fight in 6.

Grawp seems to be a bit off tho, can't even see why he's in 5 or 6.

my grandson picked up it up for E10. 99 yesterday morning in Tescos without ordering. The news agents next door said they could'nt sell him a copy because he had'nt pre-ordered it and it was a lot more expensive in that shop. It pays to shop around.

I worked in a primary school until this time last year (Yayy!) and it's the first time I'd ever seen young lads carrying big hardback books around to read at playtime and lunchtime. And this was in a working class area in a 'deprived' neighbourhood. I love anything that gets kids reading. I do read the HP books and get the jitters if Terry Pratchett doesn't manage 2 a year.

Agree totally. Actually thought I might have been better off if I hadn't re-read the book. Also wondered why they bothered with Grawp at all - maybe just as a reason for Harry and Hermione to take the yucky woman into the forest.

Ended up buying a second copy of the new book - Madmax and I were fighting over the one copy!! Elder son is now reading it too so it will get complicated!

I was like that Dave, until the 4th book came out and my son begged and begged for them - I hate being told to read something, so I stuck my foot down and refused to have em in the house! Anyway, I relented because as everyone says, if a boy is asking for a book you don't put them off! Reading them to Mike (younger son) at bedtime convinced me that everyone was right - the reason so much hype was building up around the books/movies was because they were flipping brilliant! It doesn't matter that they're 'kids' books, and the publicity doesn't change the stories into cr*p. You can't go from the movies either, because so much essential detail is missing from them, that I can hardly bear to watch them!
I genuinely think that if CS Lewis was just publishing 'The Last Battle', or Enid Blyton had just finished the last 'St Clares' or 'Mallory Towers' or 'Famous Five' book, we would see just as much hoo-ha - it's a product of the time we live in and the instant media available to us.
The queueing at midnight thing was great fun, and we really enjoyed ourselves. Much more point to it in my mind than pointlessly swilling beer to the point where I don't know who I am or what I'm doing, which is what a huge amount of other 'adults' seem to be teaching the kids...

I jus need someone else to finish the book now, so I can talk about it...??!!
