.. Hopefully the water bombing aircraft will get it under control soon

The hotel that's been burnt out is only about 2 kilometres from the botanical gardens, as far as I can tell the fire's in Curral dos Romeiros (curral is a very steep sided valley), anyone who's visited Funchal it's the valley that leads into the ribeira de joao gomes which leads into Funchal in front of the artisans market.

Yep, it's a sad sad situation & it's getting more & more absurd It's not that long ago that Madeira suffered terrible floods & landslides that claimed 42 lives with hardly a mention in uk media
