I realise you guys really love blogs and vlogs but I struggle to understand them. Perhaps I'd get it more if people could explain what motivates them to write one (I used to write a very detailed diary as a teenager but I'd have been mortified if anybody had read that ) in particular. I assume can be useful to read for info but I've also seen ones where people just talk about the fact they went for a walk. A friend of mine used to do one when living aboard so family back home could keep track but I can't see the interest to a stranger. Genuinely not trying to do down the whole concept and feel that if people gave their reasons for being into it I might get it too.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

My motivation was to record a diary of progress as when I took over the plot it was a wilderness and I knew that if I didn't have something to show me just how far I had come when I hit the wall as runners say, that I may not have the motivation to continue. It makes me feel good looking at progress, Mill Green is in the worst condition at the moment but only because I'm working on the infrastructure on my new plot on Spencer Road.

Then as I began to learn more and find out things I wanted to record what they were and where I could find them again. The links section of my blog is there primarily for me, but I know others will also find it useful.

It assist me in planning for future years and seeing how I did in previous years, and I leave myself reminders. in addition friend and family who are abroad can see what I'm up to, I have a cousins in Australia & Canada.

Re the vlogs - I record some and add them as sometimes it's just easier but I like the mixture of both as its easier to flick pages and look at photographs than to listen to myself drone on, I also hardly ever get in shot.

Re interest to stranger, I love reading other peoples blogs and seeing what they are doing, every now and then you find a golden nugget for example the seed spacing and planting rule that I made following a link to a blog posted by someone on here http://cadalot-allotment.blogspot.co...cing-rule.html

I also like to build stuff out of pop bottles so I have videos of the builds on the blog like the self watering propagator, slug traps and the bird scarers etc. Ummm need to think about another pop bottle build as I'm throwing to many away again.

The boy obviously has a chilli fetish- but the site is set out wonderfully. A great mix of pictures and descriptions- and most importantly an easy to use site that allows you to rummage about the place and look at previous stuff.

There's been a few others that I've had a nosey at over the last couple of years - but my time on here has been limited recently, so I apologise for forgetting names.
Thanks Kevin! I hope to spend some more time on it, but last few weeks were mental..I am slowly playing around with it and changing and learning as I go..

Link to my blog in signature and link to mudandguts in my side panel on watched blogs, also link to tripmeup's All Thing's Gardening blog.

Based on my experience so far, one huge benefit for me is the record keeping aspect AND the ability to add lists, links to other sites and the labels that you can search by..

So for example, next September I will be easily able to find the recipe I used for making a jam or a pickle etc

Or I can see when I dug first potatoes last year versus this year and so on...You can even set up TO DO lists...

Its a winner for me so far...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Been there done that one I had a pop Bottle Borg Cube and was about to make the roof then decided on triangular ends and two pop bottle fox proof cloches were better. When I got my real greenhouse I gave the cloches to a new plot holder.
