I went to the Wisley flower show today. It was lovely, but not much cop if you only really grow edibles. Still I was poking around one of the herb stalls and found elephant garlic at £3...

for ONE clove!
Or 2 for a fiver. And the woman wasn't joking - I checked!

I got mine as part of a King's seeds deal last year with various other unrememberd types so have no idea about prices.

I've never seen elephant garlic on sale in a greengrocers. Curious to find out if its sold over the counter and whether its cheaper to buy it that way.

Yeh, Wilc0s - you just need to shove it in the ground for about 6-8 months.

Sold in my local Waitrose (of course!) for £1.99 per bulb, though they aren't quite as big as the ones I grew.

I asked her if she was joking. She said no, but you get 2 for a fiver. I don't think she'd shifted many.

I was after a few to bulk up my own stocks, but not at those prices! I don't want to grow proper garlic again and we've both loved this at home.

Crickey I was give two by my plot neighbour last weekend and I have absolutely no idea when or how to plant them?

The books say plant them out in October/November. I got given my original 2 in Feb though and they still made respectable bulbs.
