  • OK. Taken some time to catch up with the last 2 days.

I really want to cook. It's what I do. I'm going to my daughters for Christmas and she works full time . I don't know how to help her without her thinking I'm taking over. I remember my MIL trying to prove what a crap housewife I was as I worked and she didn't. I ended up very ill several years trying to juggle it all. I'm sure others on this site have similar problems. How do do you resolve them?

    • Just offer the help Janie, if its refused then enjoy your day and leave your daughter treat you , otherwise you could well end up turning into your mil .

      • Ask her how you can help?
Offer to do one of the courses?
Tell her you love beans on toast and being together is more important than food.
Let her do it her way and do the washing up. You can cook on Boxing Day.

Or just ignore Christmas as I do

I have ignored it several times since Brian died. My children have decided that I can't do that. 2 years ago I decided to do my own thing and it went down like a lead balloon, I was in a pub with my eldest and the landlord told him to get rid of me 'cos they were having a lock in. It was all the more embarassing because my DIL was there and was his boss, but as she had only just given him the tenancy she decided he had to be given the right to make the decisions. I've always done the granny thing for the grandchildren as in pressies.
It's only one day (supposedly). to be honest, I can deal with Christmas Day, Boxing day is another matter.

I'm not a Christian and think the whole thing is nowadays a commercial load of carp.

            • Well we are having the full family for Christmas and we are all looking forward to it, my son and daughter usually take turn about to host but this year we decided that we would do it as the chances of hosting lessens each year, my wife and I will attend church in the morning with any of the children that want to come with us, but due to good planning and preparation there will be no problems, all the jobs were handed out, I was told I have to prepare the veg. for cooking, then keep out the way, no doubt I will head to the greenhouse for a time, just to check on things, for the one thing I have learned over the on years of marriage is keep clear when she is working. Well time for bed, enjoyable left of the weekend, tomorrow I will be back doing a jigsaw, I have been doing it back and forwards over the last three weeks and I think I will have it competed in record time, as the box says 6 to 8 years. Goodnight

                • Mornin n'all n'all

2 weeks today!...I best start thinking about getting the decorations up.
This year I'm thinking of simple decorations....putting loads of Holly everywhere plus a few bought decorations...plus the tree nearer the time.
Being busy with the bathroom still is taking priority!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend?

Up & at'em this morning after a v lazy day yesterday. Downstairs has had their baby - I know 'cos I can hear feeble squawkings from tiny lungs...

Hopefully last night's deluge hasn't soggified the plot too much, I was only part-way through some extensive digging!

                      • Morning everyone, thankfully Carrie didn't wake me up at silly o'clock.
Decorating ongoing, might, just might, get my shelving put up in the porch today. Thought it was going to be yesterday so brought another gadget home from work to celebrate. Never mind.
Need to think about turkey and the like shortly, I hate food shopping though .......
                        Have a lovely Sunday folks
