    • Finally finished the Xmas shopping. 2 hr walk with my daughter and her dog to make sure they all get on. Fabulous except that one of mine decided to roll in fox poo. Now got to wrap it all. I'm actually exhausted but I won't admit it. I could sleep for a week.

I started months ago but some things just didn't happen.

      • Evening folks! Nice to see that those who want or need to be organised generally are; and for those who are more relaxed about it, it doesn't matter too much; so everyone's happy, I think.

I didn't quite finish what I wanted to do for work yesterday - I still have the proposal to send out (only about half an hour's worth of email), but once I realised that the recipient won't be in work until 3rd Jan, I kinda lost the impetus to get it out the door.

Christmas fairly low key here, as ever - family bits n bobs and a couple of friends to visit/have visit over the next week - just the way I like it.

In hindsight, I may have overdone it as far as the turkey is concerned - I'd normally get a crown, but the whole of a free range norfolk bronze was only a couple of quid more, and I can't resist such value for money.

So tomorrow, I'll prep the veg, make the stuffing and make a 'yule log' (ha ha - last year I overbaked the sponge and it split to the point of falling to pieces - it was glued into a log shape with plenty of buttercream, and smothered in choc to disguise the damage. No-one complained.

        • Oh - I finally found the 'S' from my 'Merry Christmas' lights in the kitchen which had mysteriously disappeared yesterday.

It was under the settee - now I wonder how that got there? The kittycats are enjoying the run up to their first Christmas.....

....but like any youngsters, the excitement and overtiredness can tip them over into naughtiness....

            • The wind and rain still blowing here discovered it wasn't the Vine that was the problem but the internet it was down for about three hours and thanks for the thought Trip and just to let you know I do help my wife repair for Christmas. Goodnight

Hubby's off to get the bread, so those of you who are not out battling the shops are most welcome to boiled egg and soldiers, just shout.
Going in to work this afternoon, last shift until next Wednesday. We had a half price sale yesterday of anything Christmassy, so not much left to pack away, happy days.
Hope you all have a good day and stay safe all of you affected by this storm

                      • Mornin n'all n'all!

Just waiting for the rest of the family to wake up then we're off to market.
It'll be a lovely festive atmosphere!
Need to get fresh bread from an artisan baker- every Xmas Eve we have creamy steak and mushroom baguettes for tea/supper with champers!
It goes back to when we worked sillily rediculously hours and needed something quick but extra spesh when we finally had the chance to collapse....and the tradition continues!
I finally ended up asking son what he needed for Xmas...I offered him many of your suggestions and he said what he REALLY needed was a breathable, waterproof cycling jacket.
So...bit more than the suggested £30, but hey....he's going to get loads of use out of it and have a more pleasant time cycling in the rain.
Mum couldn't stop grinning when we collected her double string ' false pearl' necklace....that's what gift giving is all about eh?...so it's now confiscated until tomorrow!

Hope everyone has a fantastic day....I'm pretty sure I will!

                          • Morning. Been to Tesco and got the last few bits. What we don't have now we will have to do without.
Going to see my mom and dad this afternoon. I have my dads presents stashed here for my mom so my dad wouldn't go rummaging and find them.
                            Have a good day everyone
