  • Evenin' all ...

Another beautiful day here ~ just unfortunate for me that it was spent indoors (my place of toil & stress) - and following on from that, trailing around a supermarket whose sole intent is to relieve me of my hard-earned 'toil & stress' wages ......

A quick shufti around GH, muttering words of encouragement to my sweet peppers & chillis ~ and that, as they say, is that!
I need to retire ......!!!! No chuffin chance of that ....................

Hope your lobster recipe was a success Bren. And rary hope you're not posting twice again, you have me chuckling at the first time of reading ......!!!!!

    • Rary a friend had bought the lobster then changed their mind about eating it, I think the claws put them off anyway the meal was OK but then pasta, chilli, courgettes and roasted toms are always nice. don't think i'll add the lobster next time.

I'm quite sure we'll be getting back to those 'better days' in the near future.

          • Full day at the school today - we finished 3 beds and almost there with 1 - 2 others not far away. I have one big bed left to split into 2 with a path in the middle - I am encouraging the school to collect as much seaweed and leaves as they can. They are visiting the woods on Friday so expect them to visit the site - my daughter is helping so she can show them the sweetcorn, brussel sprouts, kale. beetroot etc. but most importantly the resident frog - it is a tiny little thing but a great jumper.

            • Brilliant Shen - from working in Schools for the last 10+ years, the kids will lap this kind of 'on the fringes curriculum stuff ' right up.

Maybe not all - but for some, this added knowledge/skills will stay with them.

Your next challenge is to get them to eat the stuff !!

I don't think that is possible - people have become far to used to the goodies in life - I don't think they could live like we used to - I haven't seen days like that in close on 60 years when debt was the norm
with an almost weekly visit to the pawnbroker and borrowing money for a loaf of bread on Thursday till payday on Friday. My father's generation fought tooth and nail to improve wages and conditions - these are certainly under threat but the old days will never return.

You are 100% correct - they not only all joined in but they have been talking of nothing else for a week. Some are exceptional but I couldn't fault one class - such enthusiasm and commitment - better than some of the allotment holders Many of the best workers are those with some form of autism - non stop workers - all they need is a gentle prod in the right direction and the slightest encouragement spurs them to even greater efforts. I am now on first name terms with 50+ kids ranging from 6 to 11

I will try and get them to taste some of the produce when they come to the allotment - unfortunately peas have all gone and they aren't allowed rhubarb with sugar anymore but the sweetcorn freshly picked is delicious.

You must have been brought up in a city Shen, the small towns didn't have pawn shops, it was the Co-Op that allowed people to survive

                              • A very good, October Wednesday morning ...

A sort of calm, dry day in waiting ....... hope it's productive for everyone.....
The iron is plugged in, vacuum cleaner standing to attention, coffee mug half drained and I can't really be ar*ed to move .........
Think I'll just have another 5 minutes sitting and browsing on here .......
