  • Morning all. Cold here today - bit of a chill in the ait
Sort of weather that catches you out as still warm during the day. Sandwiches made, best get dressed I suppose. Busy playing with the baby dinosaurs.....
    Another happy Nutter...

    • Morning boys and girls, just had the first of my daily 'Rary' giggles
Going to be a lovely bright day here with a chilly wind. More washing methinks
Gave the lawn what we hope will be the last cut - who knows
Will be pruning bushes and shrubs today, and picking up holiday money
      Have a lovely day peeps

        • Morning All

Nice and bright but an easterly wind so a bit nippy, garden thermometer says 5.6, the trees are rapidly changing colour and it wont be long before i start collecting leaves.

Few domestic chores first thing then off over the plots to continue the battle with the weeds.

Hope you all have a happy and healthy day

              • Good afternoon Folks, a nice day here a bit of cloud and spells of Sun shine, feeling a bit cooler now and the leaves on the trees are changing and as Green leaves said will soon be able to pick up fallen leaves,(I just hope my wife doesn't blame me for dropping them, so far this week I have broken three cups, two she knows about, I will save the third for next weeks lecture) managed to empty more pots today and got some Lady Sotherby potatoes to plant, so will set them up tonight in the greenhouse and I am going to try BMs tower idea, I know its a bit late for end of December but I like the thought of an increased yield and if you don't try you will never know:
Shen, I am quite sure neighbourhoods are a lot different nowadays from when you were young we may have more material wealth but have lost the richness of the community. Well that's my wee trip down memory lane finish for the present,( if I go any further I might get lost) I have a grandson here who wants me to try out some tricks on a scooter and I am trying to think of excuses why I shouldn't other than saying I might fall off. No I will need to go and show him how to do trick on the scooter, I better phone OH to check the insurance

                • Good evening all. The day started off very blustery but as it progressed it got better and better. The temp rose to 18deg this afternoon. Spent it cutting down my other lot of Sweetpeas. Dug up 2 heads of Celeriac but again this year I am disappointed with the size they grew. Picked some more chillis and tomtoes. Deadheaded the Dahlias which are still producing well.Did a general tidy up and decided I am finished for the day.
Spent the first part of the day playing pitch and putt so am now well and truly tired.

And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                    • Hurt my leg on Sunday so have been unable to do much for a couple of days. Today should've been catchup. I've done 2 lots of washing but not hung it up yet (no dryer) and I need some of it for my hols.

Ran some urgent errands for my son that took 3 times as long as it should have done. I need to clear the kitchen which hasn't been done for 4 days.

Ooh, Shen, Dansette record player. Mine had a Garrard deck as they were a big employer round here and no one would buy the player without one of their decks.

We should have held on them - some of them are worth a few bob now

I think there were probably a lot of different Communities back then - people generally lived not too far for their relatives which was a good thing - the slum clearances of places like the Gorbals and Govan resulted in people being sent out to housing developments remote from the City Centre with many of these having no entertainment facitlities in these pre- TV days. We went to Arden whereas my uncle next close and my aunt 3 streets or so away went to Castlemilk. As I was in the last year at Primary I travelled back and forth till I went to Shawlands Academy which also involved a journey by tram but my young brothers went to the nearest primary school where they did not do well and ended up in a Junior Secondary. After 9 & 10 years in work they took up their education again and after 'O' Levels and 'A' Levels went to Edinburgh University and both got 2.1 Hons. Places like Arden had no soul although fortunately we had Rouken Glen Park a mile or so away. If I had the choice I would have lived where I am in Troon all my life - constant fresh air and plenty of activities if anyone wishes to take them - Today I spent 4 hours at the allotment improving my plot layout. Shortly I will take my 2 grandsons to the chess club where Calum and myself will be playing our first league matches of the season.

                          • Evening all

I don't really know where the day has gone. All I know is it sure has disappeared fast.

Still cut a nice load of runner beans off today so good to see they are still going strong. I needn't have bothered planting the late ones in as the originals are the ones that are bringing in the bacon so to speak

Tomatoes (what's left) are looking decidedly sad. I think more of those will be for the compost soon.

Had to wear a coat today so definitely getting cold.

Lovely next door neighbour brought some carrot cake round for us - such a shame I can't eat it on my diet but my daughter is happy as she will have the spare piece tomorrow. It did look really good.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

It takes me ages to be comfy wearing a coat, think i hang on as long as I can without, same as putting something on my feet to go to the gate for the morning milk, bit cold sometimes on my toes
