Oh, plus you get to look forward to winter when at the end of a 12 hour shift you get to de-ice your car before you can actually escape...

Frozen spider webs - feeding the birds - gloriously clear nights for star spotting - jim jams on the radiators warming up - closer to Spring - SNOWwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww - Crimbo specials on TV - nuts - orange and lemon (not) jellies.

- you have folds of kitchen roll in pockets and at home for picking and drying saffron
- you remember that living in a north-facing flat is less of a blessing in winter
- you wonder whether your neighbours will want you certified for scavenging leaves
- everything gets a little more squidgy underfoot
- squashes and ropes of shallots take over the kitchen
- conkers are perched in the corners of every room
- plates of seed and jars of seeds in rice are EVERYWHERE
- the graph paper and pencils come out for planning next year
