I thought it might be similar to the fire stick but this has it's own web browser. Don't know if the fire stick does, I thought the FS only had dedicated installed programmes.

Sorry BM can I butt in here and ask a techie question.

My son said that we would be better using a firestick rather than paying out for THAT channel. I had a look on the inter webby and got completely confused with how you get them to work - let alone what they do.

Is there any chance that you and other tech savvy gods/goddesses could explain, in very simple terms what they are and what they do.

I've never used a firestick but I am lead to believe that some of the channels are by subscription so everything is not free.

Sorry BM, Cad and VC - modern tech goes in one eye and out the other. I had forgotten about that thread.

Havent used one of those Mal but they look a tidy price.
im assuming you can download kody onto it and therefore have accsess to most sports and tv/film channels via streaming.
I have an android box which probably does the same sort of thing but 18 notes is not to be sniffed at.
Plan for me is to ditch line rental( virgin charge ten notes for 50mb bb only ) and upgrade my android box and settle for a 5 squid mobile pay as you go and mainly use whatsapp , saves a fortune.

So... with these devices you can access YouTube and so forth. If you have a computer with lots of music/videos/pictures in it you can use this device to access them via your TV
The big appeal for many is that they (may) come with a media server (called Plex) preinstalled with add ons that let you access things like sky sport / movies etc without paying a subscription. Plex itself is entirely legitimate, but the add on allow you to access things that might not be 'entirely legitimate'
I have a Kindle fire stick that I picked up for £10. It may or may not have Plex+ ;-)

Plex / kodi carry out (largely) the same function...

I'm assuming that the PC and the TV have CEC enabled HDMI - this allows you to control the PC using the remote control from the PC.

I use a Raspberry Pi running OENELEC/Kodi as my media centre and although I do have a mini wireless keyboard I usually use the TV remote
